I have no idea where to being . . . maybe someone out there can help me . . :o

Okay, to begin . . . :o

I write songs and sing/rap . . . (Those are the positives) :D

I can't really play an instument . . . . (The Negatives) :(

So I am stuck with singing with no music or beats . . . (One big problem) :(

I have no idea how to move pass that issue.

I want to star recording and move to the next level . . . but what options are out there for me?

I am planning to start my own home studio (Maybe) But have no idea what equipment I need for what I want to do.

I want to be able to record vocals, have music, and beats . . . the only options I can think of is a type of computer program . . .

ugh, I am soo confused . . .

I guess basically all the tools I have are my vocals and songwritting abilites . . . the option of having a person playing an instrument is not really there . . . :o

so can any one help me?

The general response:

Go to tweakheadz.com - it has a good guide to getting into home recording. It may take a few hours to get through all of it, but take the time before you start putting money into this.

One possible, fairly cheap solution, is to get FruityLoops studio - its fairly cheap (as in $50-$150 versus the $300+ you'll spend for really good stuff), and its user friendly.

Learn to play an instrument? :D

If your going to be doing alot of beats and so on with a computer, i suggest maybe learning the piano. This will help with your keyboard skills and be able to work out nice chords and harmonies for your pieces.

If you're using a Mac, maybe you should start out on Garage Band. It's definitely for beginners.

I use Fruity Loops too, and I like it, but mostly because it allows me to apply my knowlege of music. If you have no music theory whatsoever, Garage Band will accomodate you.

Posted here daily...My obligatory standard reply that I keep in Wordpad:

Immediately get a good beginner recording book (spend $20 before spending hundred$/thousand$) that shows you what you need to get started and how to hook everything up in your studio:

Good Newbie guide that also explains all the basics:

Plenty of software around to record for free to start out on:

Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net
