I usually am not too terribly impressed with information I read about on the internet, paid for or free.

John Sayers was gracious enough to send me his recording manual for review last week, and finally today, I got a chance to look it over.

This manual is PERFECT for the home recording engineer who is starting out. It is well written, informative (actually, some of the stuff in there John has simplified, and he had the balls to just say it is the best way to do it, which is something rare for techy types to do because all of us techy types know there are many 'good ways' to do things), and pretty much covers most every technical thing you will need to know about building a studio, wiring it up, and recording techniques that will serve you well for years to come.

Basically, I am saying that this manual is solid information that is quite worth the price. Nothing is too complicated to understand, and it is all information you will need to know.

I have read at least 15 books on live and studio applications. Most were filled with garbage that you will never really need to know which you have to sift through to get to the information you really want. John manual "cuts through the chase" and gets on to what is important.

John Sayers Recording Manual gets my full endorsement! If that even matters to any of you....:)

Ed

I second that. I bought it a while back and it's well worth the money. He has put great effort in this, or he's just freakishly smart, and it shows in the results.

Thanks John

yeah, can u post a link to this wonderful manual - and duz it cover computer recording too, or just the kind with lots of gear and cabling?

Excuse me....

But haven't any of your EVER used a search engine before?

Try http://www.google.com . If you type in his name, the first result takes you right to his homepage.

OR!!! Look in his profile.......

I gotta do everything for you guys? I can't post a direct link because that is spam......ask John himself about that....:)

Ed

Thanks ED - I can't post a direct link either cos it's spam but ed's right about goggle or altavista, Lycos etc. Mind you what's that little red house at the bottom of my post?

Thanks for the endorsement Ola, glad you liked it.

Actually I sent it to Ed because I thought that if we combined we could write the definative recording manual cos I really like ed's writing style and the fact that he cuts to the chase also. He has a lot of experience and knows how to express it in a readible style. I still think ed and I should combine and create the recording Manual mark II, what do you all think about that?

cheers

I think if your true intent in having a webpage that you want to get out to the masses, is to offer your ideas and experience in an easy fassion to aceess, then what's wrong with posting a link? I guess I don't get why it's spamming... I very much appreciate an easy to access link. I remember when I was researching how to build a recording studio, I couldn't find a DAMN thing for weeks. I'd read all these articles about a website, but could I find the link to it? For myself, one of the big reasons I have a website for studios is so people who are starting out on their own can look at what other people have done. Will I shamelessly post a link to it? :) yes, because I think all information should be easily accessible. So, there are my thoughts on that.

About you two collaborating to write a manual, that would be great. I'm thinking I should probably get John's manual, it could probably help me out a bunch. It covers micing drums and amps, which are two things I have yet to do effectively. Well, I also haven't had a good room to mic either of them in, or mics that are up for the job. I'm sure I'd love the manual since John's site is so informational and intuitive.

Later,
-Brian

Of course I have used a search engine Ed. Did you think I was a crack smoking, funbag snarfling, Krokus fan like you?

:)

Brad

great. Brad's the chick in the VW commercial.

SONUSMAN! PLEEZ GET WITH JOHN FOR THAT! This proposed "compilation" book would be PERFECT for me, and would make a great gift for some of the guys in the band, etc.

Gotsta know the ACOUSTICS!
Gotsta know the LIVE SOUND!
Gotsta make this book, Ed. You too, John. Maybe add a section for club owners, with top ten mistakes (w/ examples) that club owners tend to make out of presumption, etc., and how live acts can avoid and treat the "symptoms" of such screwups.

And I'd really like a professionally bound version, John, maybe you could sell the bound book with a 1-space rack drawer on your site!

(you know, for the book)

Thanks for the effort, you got my business.

John, is this book published in the States???
I went to google and saw about 167 entries under
"John Sayers", nor do I see the book name on your
web page! Or is it that I smoked too much of Brad's crack?

WoW! Mr Q - there's a scrolling flash telling you where it is and a logo called DOWNLOAD to click - I can't do anything more :)
It's designed as a web site so u can navigate around it like a site.

cheers
John
