I hate computers

SO I get home from work, sit down to listen to a few tunes, work on a few mixes, all of the sudden outputs 5 and 6 on my delta 410 aren't working, no sound etc. I had this happen once before except it was just 4, I contacted M-Audio tech support and they said to reinstall the drivers, if that didnt work to reseat the card, etc. So I did all that, the first time and it fixed it, this time it didn't do shit. /afk crying

did you try a different slot? But I hear you on that. I cant stand when something goes wrong with my PC. And I don’t want to reload windows. That will take a long time.

Here is something to try. Uninstall the drivers and turn off the computer. Take the card out and restart the computer. Then run this program http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048 Turn the computer off and reinstall the card. Now when you turn the computer back on you will get a clean install of the drivers.

I hate computers too. I just finished a great take tonight, and for the first time in a year of running this software on this PC I got a BSOD, which told me the computer was taking a 'memory dump' and then switched off.

Unfortunately Sonar couldn't grab me a recovery file in time.

I am a retard

So I deduced that I am a retard. Apparently in some mindless act of random stupidity the two stereo channels on my board in which I have outputs 5 and 6 plugged (5/6 and 7/8 on the board) I, for whatever reason, panned them opposite of where the ins are connected (out5 from the card to In left on 5/6 and that damn channel is panned right, same deal with the other lol) so only a muted track could be heard. After the unistall, reinstall, take the card out, reseat the card, try different PCI slot, etc. It was the goddamn L/R pans on the board. Lesson learned though, now for my next question. Anyone know of any good gear that will properly remove my head from my ass?


On a serious note, I've been laughing my ass off all day about it, lol

glad you can laugh about it, i bet you still hate computers tho, i sure do. i don't know how anyone can deal with them if they weren't a pc/lan tech for 6 years like I was. even w/ experience it doesn't make it any easier, it still sucks. the only fun was taking an entire bank branch off line and see everyone go nuts and turn away customers at the drive thru and see the line at the door, then it was really funny when i had to go thru that door to my car for parts, and then, COME BACK and have people tell me that 'they're closed because the computers are down.' ha, what fun. only i can get back in and then it's time for me to sweat as the manager is looking at me for a time estimate and now i'm replacing cable runs and bringing the system up and then down again b/c someone can't get back into the server, and then i'm on hold to my own friggin office, that was fun. Manager says to me 'what's going on' and I say, 'i'm on hold.' LOL!! the good old days....

So, even after your recent experience, you still put your trust in gear over experience...j/k

I would suggest a crowbar. Worked for me on many occasions. Also, if a door ever gets stuck, you'll have a tool that can handle that situation as well.

Plus, if you walk around with a crowbar you look tough, and who doesn't need to look tough?

I am seriously coming to this conclusion as well. My Dad started on Computers in the mid 1960's. He was trained by IBM back then. So, I've grown up around computers my whole life. We either had a dumb terminal or a Computer of some type for most of my life.

The only one that we had that worked perfectly every single time - was the Apple IIe.

When I do go to the PC to record - I am buying a Mac.
Forget the cards - it's Firewire all the way for me. LOL


I wish somebody out there made a software tht worked on the PC platform, but you didn't have to install an Operating system.

I would LOVE to completely bypass Windows.... God do I despise it.

I haven't looking into Unix, but ifI had it my way - I owuldn't have anything at all that wasn't recording related in the machine, and the softare would have any provisions for anything that wasn't recording related.

After all, I just want the machine to be like a giant digital Portastudio with 24 ins and outs via a MOTU I/O24.

The HD24 is a rock solid recorder, yet you still need a computer for decent editing I'm looking at loads of outboard gear; ADAT mixer, multi channel compressors, gates, EQ you name it and putting the files back on the recorder for mixing. If the HD24 had a cool GUI editor and could browse the web I'd happily melt my pc, and I've been a geeky programmer for 15 years

Ugh.
I won't even own anything with the name Alesis on it. As far as I'm concerned it's all crap. I had too much bad luck with their earlier products. I picked up a MIDIVerb around 1986 or so, and it was all downhill from there.

Good prejudging, I don't buy anything fr*nch for example (when's the last time you saw an old fr*nch car on the road? and they smell) The alesis fireport to go with the recorder is a nightmare plug and prey device, I've had 3, all had problems, but the recorder is quality I tell you! Every week for 6 months it records 16 tracks for 4 hours non-stop, not a single glitch.

(and it's what Status Quo use! (so they must be great ) I knows because a guy from the band was in front of me at my local store and bought the last two units for their live gigs, meant I had to wait for mine )
