My point is that people usually just rave about things that are new. If it is old and good, then it is common knowledge; therefore, there is little need to tell others what they already know.

Fishmed, I understood what you were saying I was just hackin' on ya.
I actually think you made a good point, and agree w/ you.

Fortunately, the pro I took recording lessons from had me bring my ADATs in to him, so he could show me how to do the maintenance, including cleaning the heads and guides, as well as replacing the idler wheel. Mine work fine.

Would you be willing to write it out and share it with us?
Thanx!

Order the ADAT maintenance video from Alesis -- it's around $10 bucks.... well worth it - clearly describes the process step-by-step, with video (duh!) to actually see what's up.... makes a world of difference....

Describing it only by word could get ugly and confusing!

Thanks for the tip Bear, I'll do that.

Thanks for all your info guys

I have been using 3 Tascam DA-88's since 1994. Have had to spend $1500.oo on updated transports and software for the past 7 years. How does that compare with ADATS?

I've been running two ADATs and a BRC for a little over three years with no problems. Not a one, except for acouple of munched tapes but if you take into account the hundreds of tapes I've put through them, that ain't too shabby in my book. YMMV
:D

Same as Track Rat for me, but I did have to replace a drive belt.... $2.00....

Figure in cost of cleaning supplies and Idler Wheels I maybe spent $50-60 in the last 3 years on ADAT maintenance.........

Not too shabby at all..........

I love my adat. If I had more I would sleep with them. I like my buddies fostex
16 track HD but it has lots of drawbacks also and its to ugly to sleep with.

I just bought a second hand XT-20 and the motor needed to be replaced cost me about $120, ithink it was a bit abused but i got it for a good price and now its like new.
