I have an Idea I want to try, I want to see if anyone has done this yet.

I am going to record some drums at home again. This time I am going to borrow a stage snake from a friend of mine just for the session.

Last time I did this at home, I used about 12 or 14 mic cables doubled up, as well as headphone extension cables, doubled, to isolate the drummer in a back bedroom. It worked well but all those cables! Bleh!

The question is, this snake has the XLR ins, of course, but also the TRS outs.

Will these work for the headphones? It's a 100 foot snake, so that's my only concern, maybe frying the Headphone Amp or something.

I don't have the snake yet or I would have tried it myself.

Any experience out there on this?

Go or No?

Yeah... it'll work, but 100' is a long way for a high impedance signal. You'll lose some of the top end, the signal will be a bit lower than usual, and you might have some radio station interference, but you shouldn't fry the headphone amp (I said shouldn't, not won't).

The best way to fry a headphone amp is to use a mono jack.

why dont you set the headphone amp in the room with the drummer and send you monitor signal over the snake?

Because the other musicians, (and myself) will be in the living room, so we need it too!

Thanks, tho, not a bad idea, if I had 2 HA4600's:)

:D :D  Maestro; I used to live Redlands and loved it!! I wish I could go back, Totally cool music scene there by San berdo. Is that big music store still in San berdo that opened up in the mid 90's?

You mean Geetar Center? Yeah but they moved to Hospitality Lane.

Those Crumbs wiped out Lier's Music.

Do you remember Caleb's Guitar? Now called Redlands Guitar.
Thats where I bought my Takamine N-10 in '90.

So where are you now?

:) Yes I remember, and where its at at the time I was there.
I remember Lier's. In kans-ass. Does Redlands still have the water problem in the late summer- foul taste?
I used to live on state st, 850 apt 7. You could look out the kitchen window and see the traffic going up 15 at night out of san berdo. Taillights going up, headlights comming down. An office building now blocks the view.
