Yeah, my links are MP3's. But for some reason, on some computers they don't open and stream automatically. They ask you to download the MP3. I'm not sure why that is.

I use firefox. When I click a downloadable link, it asks me if I wanna just open it, or download it. It's one extra click that takes about .00003 seconds. Rami's files takes me to an extra page that asks me the same question. It adds about .00005 seconds to the process.

I like MP3's because they sound better (when done at a good bitrate) than most streaming sites. I'm always suspicious of people just seeking hits on their lame ass music pages and it gives me the chance to download the file. Sometimes if I wanna give someone some detailed EQ feedback, I'll DL the file and drop it into my DAW and put it through a parametric EQ to hone in on something that I feel is off with the mix. Sometimes I wanna put it on my MP3 player and give it the "car test". Sometimes I just wanna steal it and listen to it.

First of all, I just tried to rep you, and I think I neg repped you by mistake. I only realized it after it was sent and I saw the message "thank you for subtracting reputation, etc.....". Didn't mean to do that if that's what happened. I wanted to send you a friendly positive rep with the remark "Are you ok :D ". So, if anyone reading this can give Chuck some positive rep on my behalf, that would be great.

Hi RAMI. No problem here. I didn't know what rep points were until I read the thread on rep points last week :-) Anwway - good job on the tune.

Cool song, really enjoyed it. I liked the main riff coming in part way through, the rhythm of it kind of made me think there was a note missing the first time it's played, but then it gives the whole song its feel, or something! I found it a bit weird how the solo was in one place, then panned to the other side over a couple of beats, but then maybe it's just part of the unconventionalalityness of it all?!

Speaking of rep points, I can't see how to give any - is it because I am but a lowly noob, cast out in the darkness?

Sounds great man - Love the guitar work on that one, sounds great. Great performance. Good job

You're right. I might have been too obsessed with the whole "balance" thing, but the reason I did that is because the drums are riding on the ride cymbal on the left for the first part, so I panned the solo to the right. Then, the drums go back to the hi-hats on the right, so I panned that part of the solo left. I might try a gradual panning of the guitar instead of shooting it over to the left suddenly.

Thanx for all the comments.

I wonder if it might be worth trying to switch guitar tone with a more abrupt pan, to make it a second guitar taking over the solo - I'm in the office today so can't give it another listen right now to see if that might work.

nice work Rami...not my favourite vocals from you, until the softer stuff which is excellent...not sure if its your cold or the lyrics (not that I can talk about vocals) but I loved the guitar and bass...Ive just been mixing my kick drum fest so the drums sound a little quieter than normal

but again Im really digging that guitar especially the chorus riff...great stuff, fucking rocks

Before I read the comments, and about 1/4 way through the song, I thought the drums need to come up some, too. Probably 1-2db. Snare gets lost sometimes behind the vocals / guitars. Mix is really sparse, but that isn't a bad thing at all. Bring the drums up a bit (maybe lower the overheads just a tad in relation to the rest of the kit, too) and that'd be awesome. Singing is great, harmonies are stellar. Guitar sound nice and dirty with some grit. heh.. Great song, dude. Thanks for sharing.

Kc and Poetic,

Thanx a lot, guys. I appreciate the comments and advice.

I've re-mixed it (a couple of times since starting this thread),. I don't remember everything I've done, but pretty much everything I did was from suggestions here, so thanx a lot. The drums have come up and the guitar has come slightly down. Did a few other things that I can't remember, hope it sounds better now.

I'm always a freak for symmetry and having everything balanced against something else. But I like what you've got here. Especially like the bridge work. This is another example of how a good tune and good performance makes the song. Was this a remake of an older tune of yours?? Sounds familiar.

good job as always.

Thanx Chili. Yeah, I usually go for the doubled guitars and balance, etc....But I kept telling myself while mixing this, that there are thousands of recordings of 3-piece bands in the 70's that were recorded like a 3-piece band. No doubled guitars, etc....I figured I'd use it as a challenge to not double the guitars and go raw.

All of my original mixes for the 1st 10 songs I did were 1 guitar, bass, drum machine, voclas and something to solo.
It isn't an easy thing to do & I doubt I did it well but there is something to the integrity of trying to capture the stereo image of "the band" as it were.
I think you've done a good job RAMI.

Wow, great bass and great drums tone! Guitar performance is very good. Could you tell me your recording chain for the bass?

Hey Wally! Actually, I told my chain in your other thread about bass tone. I have an Ibanez bass plugged straight into my TASCAM 2488. After recording, for this song, I EQ'd a little bit (cut 250hz a few DB, boosted around 1200hz bout 2db) and then I compressed with about 5ms attack, 50ms release and got about 6db of reduction. That's about it. Hope this helps.

I'm just listening to it now so I don't know what the earlier mixes sounded like. Also I'm just listening on my laptop so I can't speak to the low end. I like it. The 3 piece works well and the balance sounds good to me. The only suggestion I have is to put some parallel compression on the vocal just to make it a little stronger in it's weaker moments (probably due to your cold) without losing the live feel. If you're already using parallel compression, I'd push up the squashed channel by a dB or two so that it fills-in a bit more.

Thanks Rami, I will try going DI. I actually have a 6 string Ibanez bass and was mic'ing my Hiwatt cab. I will try and see if I get a better sound going DI. Your mix is very good, captures that old school feel
