So, I have 3 tunes finished except for vocals. But I got over a cold a few weeks ago. Problem is, I still sound stuffed up every time I try to record vocals.

But I was tired of waiting, so I decided to just go for what I thought would be the easiest one to sing.

Besides not being a great singer, does it sound like someone with a cold?

Also, help on the mix would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx yall.

LIFE IS MURDER

Yay! Rami put up a tune. It's been like n00b central in here. Bring some order back to this place.

My ears are pretty tired from a gig last night so I can't give you any useful feedback, but it doesn't like you have a cold. Sounds good from what I can tell. I'll check back when my ears are less hungover.

Thanx man. Take your time. I'm sure I'll re-mix this 18 times by the time you get a good listen. :D

I think the drums have to come up...but I always think that, so who knows.

This was a bit of a bitch to mix because it's a "3-piece band" arrangement. Only one guitar (except for the middle part). I'm so used to having that doubled rythm guitar to be able to place one on each side. With just one guitar track, I found it harder to spread and balance stuff.

I really like this. The vocals sound fine. I don't mind the unbalencedness at all, the first Van Halen albums where like that, I don't think it would sound right if it had been doubled. Love the harmonies, especially around 2:30. The bit about 2:06 takes me by surpprise a bit. Love the slide guitar. Great song again.

Cool, thanx a lot toad.

Yeah, I sort of took the Van Halen approach, but not as drastic. I have the guitar a little to the left, with it's reverb a little to the right, and I did the opposite with the vocals.

Thanx a lot for listening and for your comments.

Love the tune Rami. At first I was put off by the panning of the guitar, but then it started to grow on me, especially after the vocal harmonies came in. Keep up the goodness man!

I like the sparse arrangement - I think it works so well because the performance is so great :-)

Okay I'm back with fresher ears. I think you're right the drums can come up some. Not much, but definitely a little. The toms sound kind of flat to me. Old heads? Or, really, I think just dropping the lone rhythm guitar some could bring the levels into balance. It seems a little overpowering. I really dig the sparse mix. The panning unbalance doesn't bother me, but you can balance it out some by moving the bass just slightly to the right and put the vocals back in the middle. Good performances as usual. Like the guitar tone too. Still the Peavey?

not a great singer...yeah sure, who's buying that.....:p:D
I love it, it's raw, the guitars sound mean, your drumming's fantastic and the harmonies and arrangement are great. I don't hear anything that jumps out at me mixwise. And that guitar riff is soooooooo damn groovy! Another great song!

Ido and Joey....Thanx a lot guys. Like I said, the sparser arrangement made it a bit of a challenge to mix, but it also made it fun. Thanx guys.

Greg.....Yeah man, I need to change my skins. I let it go for a while now. Fucking expensive to do the whole kit, but I'll get around to it soon. The toms are dead, even though I tried to tune some life into them. I'll try bringing the guitar down a bit and the drums up and hopefully that's all it needs.

Thanx guys!

The stereo image is no biggie - I think we really have certain expectations in rock that are usually met. Greg's minor remedy would probably make it less a shock for those who have concrete minds.
Harmonies - it is something you excel at.
tres bon!

Is there a streaming site? I don't like downloading files... There's a billion good free streaming sites? Or you could stream from your site?

I gotta admit, the panned guitar would really annoy me if you weren't shredding the thing :D It DOES really grow on you as the song progresses! I liked the mix. Awesome bass tone.

Thanx Ray. I agree. There are a million 3-pice bands that have recorded their stuff this way, it's no big deal. We're just not as used to it these days.

If you really need to stream it, go to my site RAMI - Music and it's the first song in the music player at the bottom of the page.

Sorry - loose nut behing keyboard. Sounds good to me!

ps- mp3s always stream on my setup just by clicking - don't think I'm doing anything special. I like the mp3 links cause I can just right click and download if I want and add to my player for the commute :-)

First of all, I just tried to rep you, and I think I neg repped you by mistake. I only realized it after it was sent and I saw the message "thank you for subtracting reputation, etc.....". Didn't mean to do that if that's what happened. I wanted to send you a friendly positive rep with the remark "Are you ok :D ". So, if anyone reading this can give Chuck some positive rep on my behalf, that would be great.
