New version of old song (althought the string part is missing, sorry about that but it's the kinda dry guitar behind that). Any suggestions = :D

Yep it sucks :)

By the way sorry for the "clearing the throat sound". I obviously forgot to edit that out ;)

Well start smilin' then... :p

First off.. don't run that acoustic direct. It sounds like @ss. :D Use whatever mic you used for the vocals on the acoustic. (and consider doubling the main acoustic part).

Then take that picked git and pan it off to the right side a little (maybe 60-75%) It just gets sucked up by the main git if you leave it dead center.

Then bring the vocals up and slap a tiny bit of room on them, cause they sound bone-dry.

At that acappella break, bring all the vocals up (including the harmonies)... that part sounded pretty decent, but I could barely make it out because it was so freaking quiet. :p

...just a few first impressions. :p

btw.. what recording interface do you use??? Tape? HDD DAW? Computer? Cause there was a big fat butt-load of hiss on that whole thing. Gotta figure oat what's causing that and get rid of it.

Mmm computer. You see this is just recording before I get some decent equipment :)

I like the sound of the guitar, BUT on the recording mixdown it sounds kinda shaky and as if theres a bit of flange, dunno why.

What would you suggest for the reverb?

Anyway thanks for being the one person willing to talk about this embarresment of a piece.

:)

hey man, you need to drop that stigma "it sucks". even anybody with balls enough to get in front of a mic with a notecard and read their name and address with authority does not suck. Don`t let the experience and presentations of some here in the pool work you into a position of feeling that yours is not worthy. Yours is just a credible as anybody elses. You dont know what their first ones sounded like....
This tune aint bad at all either, i like it. Its got some good melodic structure and the playing aint bad either. You sing on key although I couldnt hear the words. The guitar dont sound bad but there are some mechanical noises from the guitar and some hiss But this is stuff that can be worked out with a little experience, advice, and accumulating tools to get it from finger to disk. using what you got to work with, bring the vocals up, watch out for the mechanical noises of the guitar, maybe follow the advice you got earlier, try the vocal mic on guitar, and try it in different places. after you get more tools and experience go back and listen to this recording as a measuring stick.

I guess it depends on your defenition of "suck". I wouldn't go that far, but it's definately lacking energy even for a mellow tune, and there are some serious mix issues.

The vocals are way buried in there. Can't even make most 'em out, and the performance seems quite lackluster. Sing it like you mean it, & turn 'em up till you think they're too loud.

The guitar tone is quite muddy. It's got that direct piezo with the highs rolled off tone. I rarely use the direct out on acoustics for recording, and when I do it's usually to blend with a mic or just for effects.

Make sure none of the sound from your output is getting back to your input.

Toki: Thanks :) I realise this is basically going to be another stepping stone in the learning process. If you heard what I was doing a couple of months ago.... ;)

I'm pretty much incapable of anything though, so it's gonna take some serious learning.

Brane + Toki: Yes the voice is too low, and I recorded it late at night (I have a knack for doing that), so I need to sing louder :)

I'll try as soon as I can to use the mic for the acoustic, it's acting a bit of a problem, because I have no space at all where I am, to set up a microphone stand or something. I'll have to work it out :)

Anyway Thanks
