Dogman

Unkle Ticklefingers
So I tried to learn something in 2 weeks. :D

Not The Man

This is with 2 room mics...I only have 2 inputs on my pre. :o

Guitar is also the same 2 mics, and bass is through a POD.

What a co-incidence...I got a Dog for Christmas. :D :D

But seriously, I'll check it out after afew shots of tequila...........Won't be long.

What was your setup like? Sounds like mostly room mics? Cool organic sound to be sure!

Don't laugh too hard.....and waste the tequila.... :p

Ahhhh... how I love room mics... They pick up so much. After mic'ing all the drums I always throw a room mic out there to pick up a natural sound. I recorded a band last week and did it that way. Came out pretty good for a Pearl Forum kit.

So you've been playing for 2 weeks? If so, you have the basic concept of rhythem already. I've seen people sit down and not understand to keep timing with the hat or ride or just couldn't do it.

Just 2 mics, overhead...that's all I have right now. When I learn to play better, I'll get some more mics and pres, but that's about all I can play right now.... :o

Thanks man.

Thanks man...yeah, no drummers around, so I decided to see if I can have some fun at it. So far, it's been a blast. :D

I need to figure something out so I can play to a click though....

I'm impressed at your drumming. It's solid, man. The problem with only room mics is that it's hard to get the kik and snare to cut through when you throw a band on top of the it. I'm sure they sound great alone, but right now, all I hear is the guitar. This is a good bed track, though. I love the feel. Sounds like on of Zeppelin's acoustic tunes....But you'd have to compress the hell out of those drums to get them to cut through.....

Also, I can't tell for sure, but the drums seem to be tuned really low. That doesn't always translate well into a mic. I find I get a good recorded sound on my drums (especially my snare) when I tune them up a teenage-c.u.n.t.-hair higher than I think sounds good in the room.

Damn that's cool Dogman -only two weeks - pretty sweet.

I'd maybe trim down in the 1-2K range just a tad eq-wise.

The playing is pretty tight man. Nothing like live drums.....

Dayum, dog, only 2 weeks of playing? Well done, sir!! Keep playing, refinement will come! You're a natural!!! Sounds great! Take Rami's advice re: tuning to heart...

Thanks gang.....appreciate it.

Rami, should I tune all the drums up some? I'm not sure how tight I can go without hurting the heads. I read a bit from The Drum Tuning Bible, but it's all new to me. And my room is probably terrible.....just a 12X12 bedroom. It's all I got for now. No treatment.

Again, thanks all.

Yeah man...Just tune them so they sound good and punchy to your ears...Believe me, if you can hurt a head by just tightening it up, then send me some of your steroids :D :D :D...Don't worry about it. But I'm not saying to tighten the shit out of them...though you can. But I think they can come up a bit.

Thanks man...I'll do that.

What do you use to monitor with while playing? My headphones suck. The drums were so loud, I couldn't hear a click. :o

Shit, mang. I've been playing for a year and a half and you're already better than me...must be the beer. :D

I just plug my phones into my recorder and adjust to taste. Sounds like you need a headphone amplifier. I need to put my drums in the mix to hear myself playing, so you're source mix is obviously not loud enough if you say the drums are too loud for the music even in headphones. I have an extra headphone amplifier. Let me know if you want me to put it in a box and send it out.

Thanks for the offer Rami....I'll let you know if I need an amplifier. I might need to see about some better phones first. Maybe something that blocks a little of the outside noise, maybe? These are cheap Nady phones, that sound decent, but don't seem to block any outside noise. Even playing the acoustic, it's easy to hear it through the phones without monitoring the source. What kind of headphones do you use?
