good one!SG's are great guitars and Standards are some of the best! Did you get one with a stop or vibrola..Enjoy it!

It has a stop tailpiece, but a bigsby or one of those really old style vibrolas would be an awesome idea for an upgrade some day.

Congrats man, thats a rock classic, and a really comfortable giutar to play. There is just something about the feel of a SG that makes it hug up to you and beg you to "play me."

What about the Tele you spotted as well?

Great news everyone, Ibanezrocks now has a Gibson SG Standard. Hi-5's anyone?

Great great, they are really nice, so light and still being able to give you a fat sound, almost like an LP :D

But what about that cool Tele you saw as well? It was a '72 one eh? So you may need to do more gigs, extra paperrounds and find some more students :D to get the monies for that one.

Rock on in the mean time, and yes remember-------do not forget your Ibanez :D as all your babies do like a bit of TLC from time to time, that is the only way how they are going to keep you satisfied----just like a real woman---

I think it's the "I won't give you back problems" weight. I love my SG even though it's a Special, not standard. Congrats man.

I seem to remember someone a couple of months ago on here asking about any possible problems with the longer screws of straplocks possibly hitting the trussrod since the guitar is so thin and the strapbutton is on the back of the neck joint. However I don't remember what the answer was to this, and couldn't find it when searching. Does anyone use straplocks on their sg? and what kind do you recommend? I dont really trust the small Gibson strapbuttons after being used to the big Ibanez ones where the strap would NEVER come off.

One more question: How do I post pics on here? I havent been able to figure it out, so while helping me with my straplock question if you could stick that in there in your response I would be able to post some pics of all my guitars together.

To post pix hit reply, scroll down and hit manage attachments, Hit browse and go through your computer to where your pix are and select the one you want. Hit upload and that's it. If your file is too big it will tell you. Compress it to shrink the file size. Most photobrowsers have compression.
Congrats on your SG. My first real guitar was an SG. I was seventeen. Unfortunately it got stolen. I still miss that guitar.

One of these days I'm going to drop a couple of P-90s in my SG.

/sigh/

Planet Waves

Any suggestions for straplocks?

Planet Waves has a strap that locks onto the buttons so that you do not need to mod out your guitar it just rotates a little thing over your button and holds pretty good. i never use them on my guitars but then i play acoustic much of the time and i just hang onto my strat for dear life as it is when i play

Might have been me. I used Dunlop strap locks and and the longer screw broke inside the neck joint, I tried again with a similar screw and the same thing happened. I never tried to adjust the truss rod to see if that was the reason the screws broke. After frantic searching online I never discovered how far up the neck the truss rod goes so it's still a mystery to me. The guitar is thankfully an inexpensive Epi SG and a lemon to boot anyway.

I suggest you take Dunlop strap locks off your list.

Thankyou, I'll be sure to check how far they go in before I put them in (put it against the side and eyeball it)

You're not gonna want to go this route with the SG, but all this talk about straplocks reminded me of a 'ghettolock' that worked really well. Use one of those bread-tags(like the one pictured below) over the strap. Oh :) , and congrats on the SG.
