But now what do I do? I recording the entire thing with nothign more than my computer, a mic and my guitar. Here is the link to download the Album in Mp3 format (for Free of course ;) :

www.701studios.com/music/Saint.Esprit.Enola.Reven.Part.I.2008.mp3.rar

...or if you just wan to listen to individual mp3's you can go to my website at : 701studios.com , athough these Mp3's are slightly less quality & There are only 12 tracks out of 14.

There are 14 trax and it took me over a year to record, everything done by myself...learning everything on the fly. It is called 'Enola Reven Part I'.
It is Heavily influenced by; Radiohead, Pink FLoyd, Jeff Buckley (The Doors, Alice in CHains, & The Beatles too ;) I 'just' finished it literally two days ago.
I am very proud. It features an array of different time signatures, vocal harmonies and melodies, cryptic and haunting lyrics, and rhythmic devices, layered sounds, drones, dissonance, modulations, polyrhythyms, & angular guitar riffs & chords.
Some of it is 'user-friendly' some of it is kinda 'experimental. I would 'Love' any feedback or anythign like that.

Any words of advice or encouragement or feedback, criticism (negative or positive) would be greatly appreciated and extremely welcome.

My name is joe st.esprit btw and my email is aphasia_prose@yahoo.com

Not bad dude. Really flowing sound. I would really like to know what type of vocal effects you are using on home to pittsburgh, and monarch zebras. Home to pittsburgh especially.

How 'bout posting a quick link to just one song or two ... rather than asking us to download an 88 MB file?

:D

that's where the tracks are.
I remember you posting Pittsburgh - the vocal effect is pretty much similar in werewolves - for my tastes they're too far removed from the music.
The songs & playing are cool I'm just not into the mix style.
I hope you organised clearance for the soundtrack sample - it sets off the song pretty well though I'd fade it out whilst fading in the song.

wow

thank you for the feedback...i didnt expect to hear so much so soon.
makes me feel good. as far as the mixing style...yea i know. i am a complete noob, honestly, when it comes to pro recording. The only reason i added the echo and chorus to the vocals is because they sounded so thin and lost in the mix. I dont know how to use dynamics processing and gates and compressors and all the terminology that goes with it, much less what i all means. This was just the best i can do right now.

if i ever get the chance to work with a real producer and engineer, (or get a chance to learn these skills myself) i would like to re do the album, but with 'real' musicians and everything. 'real' mics. 'real' equipment. lol. anyway, under the circumstances, it is the best i can do for now. i agree that i would like to have the vocals more natural and warm sounding...but for the life of me, i dont know how to do it lol.

vocal effects.

as far as the vocal effects go, i used syntrillium's cool edit pro.
in that program i used the 'vocal comp' preset in the dynamic processing tab. i then make a copy and add a simple echo effect "based" on the 'midtones following' preset. and then i make another copy of the original, and add a chorus with the '60's psychadelic' preset using only two voices.

so i end up with three copies; 1 original, 1 with an echo, and 1 with a slight chorus.

and i just mix those three together in cool edit pro's mixer. i might make copies of each track for layering, i might not. i do the same thing for the vocal harmonies too.

i hope that helps.

why dont you edit your first post to link to separate tracks? make it easy for people:)

Sounds good and for using only the bare minimums like you said its quite impressive. The song-writing is definitely there and your influences come through very clearly.

Start mailing those demos out man.

wow man that is pretty damn encouraging. do you know where the aforementioned demos should be mailed? i am a complete noob when it comes to stuff like this. i was so focused on the songs and everythign i didnt give one thought as to what to do afterwards.
thank you for your words...compliments are too far and few between in comparison to all of the negative criticism i get in general lol.

also...i have 3 versions of the album. 1 is lo quality mp3's like on the player on my site.
the other is high quality mp3's which you can download from 701studios.com
and the last is a very high quality version that was mastered professionally that, if needed, i guess i could sell.

I also put up individual links to the mp3/songs on my website:

701studios.com

(in the media section)

so you can still listen to the individual songs with out downloading the whole album and extracting the files manually.

i am debating weather or not i should put the high quality pro mastered versions on the site or not.

'There is really only just one reason why a label will sign a band to a contract: The record company believes they will make money. That's the only reason a label ever signs an act.'

I am extremely digging the vocals. Very full sound. I also enjoy the changes.
Takes me back to the euphoric days of the bends.
Come to America is cool. I dig the hypnotizing effect it produces.

That's very good, man. For someone with limited knowledge like you said, it's very impressive. Like the Elvis Costello vibe in the vox (the Pittsburgh one). The only thing its that is rerally hot, so much that sometimes clips.
