I Finally Figured Out the Rep Point System

I don't know anything about disagreements between ZEE and Farview, so I can't speak to that. I have seen some exchanges between ZEE and someone who wears a “silly” hat, which apparently is on too tight.

But anyone who gives DR ZEE Negative for the discussions I've seen is just not the sharpest tool in the shed.

It’s really amusing to me to see a bunch of no-talent Nazis come to a music forum and pick on the people that are the most artistic and talented… in my book, the people who give the forum character. There are other forums that don’t allow character by order of the management. In that case you may be happier at one of those.

My underlying premise is that the rep system is so broken that no one should be giving negative rep for any reason. And we certainly shouldn’t let a red box, or string of red boxes by a person’s user name influence our opinion of them.

People like ZEE can be misunderstood, so don’t be so rash clicking away with your little mouse. All you are doing when you stoop to giving someone like ZEE bad rep is admitting how little gray matter you have to use.

Rep points on this forum may have meant something at one time, but now they are like penny stock.

I know of a certain member who has been on the forum about 5 months. ¾ of his posts are in the “New Rep Point Thread” begging for points. Consequently he has hundreds more rep points than another member I know that has been on this forum for 5 years, helping and contributing to our effort. The more rep points you have the more you bring someone down when you leave bad rep.

What does that member’s opinion mean? What has he done to earn the power he abuses? NOTHING!

Now if he can meet me face-to-face and survive it (he lives 1.5 hours from me, though he doesn’t know that, or how I know that, or know how I know he left me negative rep) then he will have earned some points. The good news for him is he lives near a White Castle, and you don’t really need any teeth to eat sliders. The fries may pose a challenge, but the shakes… well; you use a straw of course, so no big deal either.

I used to be very serious into ice skating for a long portion of my life (as a "clown for the masses" myself and as a coach :) ) ... so I happen to know a great deal about how much those golden figurines and pink ribbons mean to boys and girls during challenging times ;)

Mirrors are funny that way... you actually have to catch a glimpse of yourself walking past a store window to know what you really look like.

My rep has gone from green to red to green a few times… around Christmas one time, which just seemed festive.

Rest assured, nobody here that’s been around a while puts any stock in red points. When I see red boxes on your profile I just think, “Who is the pathetic sub-intellectual idiot who is giving ZEE bad rep?” I know it’s aggravating. I think it bothers everyone to some degree.

Nothing’s changed here on earth… morons still run things. We still nail Gods to crosses. The witches still hate the Snow Whites because they're beautiful. The concepts of greatness, intelligence, creativity, etc, can only exist against the backdrop of the rest, which are not great, intelligent or creative. Stars can only shine in darkness… so here’s to the darkness. Long may it live (even if it can’t walk because I’ve broken its legs).

I'm totally with Tim here.

I like "Dr. Zee" and see him as someone who adds rather than detracts. He brings color and personality to this forum and is immensely creative and talented. It is the jerks who neg rep him that, I believe, have the problem.

Just so you don't feel alone, some dude named jake-owa gave me little red chicklet along with a nasty note over another cave thread and didn't sign his name to it. I have no idea why. It's not like we were talking to each other in the thread. Is he famous or something?

I don't post much cuz I'm more interested in reading than hearing myself talk. I guess that makes me a bad person. :(

Well my friend, If memory serves me I gave you kudos when you apologized on a thread sometime back. Now if you had recently given me a negative my positive may have shown black, not red. Or if I was in the red myself (which I have been) any rep I gave to anyone would have again been black not red and wouldn’t move your points in either direction.

I don't drink, my memory is pretty good, and I would know if I fired a little red missile at you or anyone else. It's not that I never have in time past, but I gave it up long ago. Even in those days when I thought rep points were a better alternative to anarchy, you would have to do something pretty felonious to earn one from me, such as show a pattern of harassment or bullying to anyone – bad behavior as a member in general. I know each member… the handful that has received one from me in the last three years, and why. You’re not on my list.

2) Another rep point trick we should all be aware of is people signing other peoples names to bad rep points, and thus starting a feud, and the parties are none the wiser. Don’t be taken in. Anyone can sign anyone’s name. This is another thing that makes the rep system dysfunctional.

3) If your bad rep disappeared when you put me on your ignore list, you are either mistaken, or are yourself being untruthful right now to continue your own grudge, while appearing to be conciliatory. Maybe I don’t have you quite figured out.

You tell me… what is your true motive for posting these words above? What is the real behind the apparent? No, I’m not paranoid, but cynical to the bone, so pardon me for thinking out loud, as your information doesn’t make sense. I’ve never even seen that thread until I clicked on your link above today.

3) If anything, I remember you as one of only 2 or 3 that have apologized to anyone for anything – that’s how I’ve thought of you since you were big enough to publicly say you got carried away.

Finally, the cave is the one place I don’t give negative rep, because it’s the cave. IMO, rep given in the cave shouldn’t even count out here… as some used to say – “what starts in the cave should stay in the cave” Unfortunately, rep points are universally applied across all forums, at least the bars are.

The “Show some balls” comment in your above post stands out in what would otherwise be a relatively conciliatory post, so frankly I'm cautious, yet I want to believe you believe you are stating facts as you remember them. Since everyone knows I have more balls than about anyone here except maybe Betty Rumble, not only would I sign my negative reps, I would drive to your house; walk up to your door and say hello if the mood struck me. My balls are quite fine, thank you. It’s all I can do to keep them in check.

I can only go on the information I have... I hope we’re not back where we started… you appear to make amends, then weeks later make accusations in what appears to be an attempt to discredit me. I hope I’ve misunderstood.

There is another possibility – 8tothebar (created 1-01-06) never received negative rep from me, but one of your older accounts did sometime back if you were harassing members. I only have one account, but for those who juggle many, try to keep them straight, will you? ;)

If I haven't been clear enough, not even user names acorec/MCI2424 will get bad rep from me... not even Bear... nope, I'm not going to do it. You will either get good rep from me or nothing.

I came here in the first place to talk music and recording and I'm trying to ignore the chaos around me best I can and get back to it. If you want to play games, I'm not playing here.

If anyone ever has a beef with me now or in the future, name the time and place and we'll talk. You can leave your bad rep then.

PS: I did give someone negative rep one time by accident, but it wasn't 8tothebar. It had to be a year before that account even existed. I was reading an exchange with about three windows open, and left it to the wrong person... I realized it just as I was clicking the mouse. Yet another reason to give it up ... fatigue, stupidity, etc. Well, you can bet I hit him with some good rep as soon as I could.

The only thing better than not having a rep system at all would be if members could take the bad rep back, say within 24 hours or something. Because I'm sure a lot of people have misunderstood things and with a clearer mind the next day wished they hadn't been so rash.

Yes you did and I gave you deserved acknoledgement as well. That's why I was I was stunned to uncover what I uncovered. You can deny it until blue in the face, but the fact remains that the system works and it's very easy to to find out who it it was that portioned out red chicklets.

I said that there were no hard feelings on my part. Leave it at that. OK?

The negative rep point wasn't signed, period, but the author was easily determined.

I suggest the next time you are taken to school you hitch a ride on the special Ed bus.

Easily determined? By who? That's the first question that comes to mind. It's not so easy as you think. I know the Vbullitin system and all the little quirks and holes in it. I could even share with you ways members can be spoofed if the sys admin goes with defaults rather than the Fort Knox route, but I would be kicked of the board for sure.

Your little red chicklets could have disappeared because it was at the bottom and a new rep or two knocked it off the list. I’ve seen that happen almost right before my eyes. But something tells me you’re not open to possibilities because that would interfere with what you’re trying to accomplish

I’m seeing some more red flags in your tone, so again it only causes me to step back with suspicion. Something really isn’t right there. Let me be Frank, you are wrong about how perfect and unsinkable Vbullitin systems are. And wrong about your own sureness. Or wrong because you are deliberately being untruthful to manipulate the situation to your liking.

With no offense to you in particular, I find most people have poor comprehension and are fooled rather easily, especially if they’re looking for something to be true. This is what makes bad cops… they can’t prove it but they feel something so strongly they become a god unto themselves so the rules of reasonable suspicion and probable cause don’t apply.

At this point I would not trust you to go out make an observation and return with your findings. You would only look for what you wanted to see. I trust my comprehension because it rarely lets me down. I can only think you are unaware of many things, or you are being untruthful for a purpose known only to yourself.

I find the untruthful person is much less of a possibility thinker, because he/she is lying with an objective in mind, say discrediting someone who is trying to change things from the way they’ve always been… a way you prefer, perhaps?

How can I leave “No hard feelings” “at that” when they are clearly just words? Words like the sentence you finished this post with, as follows:

The saddest thing about it all is that little outburst of yours didn’t even address the subject. It just looked to me like an “I’ve had enough with Beck using the word tape” Kind of moment.

It doesn’t appear to me you’ve left it anywhere but where it started. That’s fine. Not everyone can get along and you can’t please everyone.

Like I said, I’ve given negative rep points in the past, I’m no saint, but I don’t remember ever giving one to you under that user name.

Now that’s where we have to leave it… at an impass. Then I don’t have to know or want to know what your motives are.

That’s another thing we all should get used to if we don’t want to look like a fire breathing dragon as new members approach -- Every time a new member opens his posts with the words, “Be gentle” or “excuse my ignorance” we should feel we have failed them already.
