I'd like to be able to do the following:

L-R Outputs on mbox to be able to go into powered speakers AND hi-fi aux inputs - I would like to be able to control volume etc. separatley on both the powered monitors, and the hi-fi. I'd also like to be able to plug in an mp3 player/rack CD player with L-R outputs, to use with both the hi-fi and powered monitors.

Those are my basic requirements ^^

I would also like to know what I would need to ALSO be able to do this:
Mic a drum kit with several mics, and have a stereo output go into my mbox to record to the computer

If you could tell me firstly, what I should be looking at for just the basic requirements, and then also for using the drums AS WELL, I would be very thankful.

I'd take a look at the M-Series boards from Soundcraft. They're decent quality and a good value. You may be able to get by with the 8-channel version, which includes a few stereo input channesl. You'd route your main outputs from the Mbox into one set of the stereo inputs. Connect the main or monitor outputs on the mixer to your powered monitors and use the channel and master faders to control level. You could use a pair of auxillary output channels to feed the hifi and control levels using the aux pots. You'd then have the 8 mono channels to use for drum recording, sending it out over the main or monitor outputs (whichever set isn't connected to your monitors).

I can get a Yamaha MG16/4 off a friend for a good price, is this suitable?

awesome I just took it home and can buy it gor £78 in perfect condition... I forgot to take the power cable though... :(

Well, when you go back for the power cable, make sure you get the manual AND READ IT CAREFULLY. It's a great mixer and once you've been through the manual and played with it for a few times you'll have a very useful grounding in how pro mixers work. Don't hesitate to buy it at that price.
