I don't know what these mics are for!

I think those are used by reporters and such. ENGs (electronic news gathering) I think
 
The EV Re 16 is one of the all-time sleepers in the mic world. It is a great mic for male vocals (I pick it over a U87 on a regular basis), hand percussion, congas, and the version without the vocal screen, the RE 15, is my mic of choice for amp cabinets. The RE 15 seems to compress the sound of the cab--I see no reason why an RE 16 shouldn't sound very similar in the same application.
The RE 16 looks like about a 100-125.00 mic when it was new, doesn't it? Guess again. $365.00 list price in 1977 dollars!! The RE 11 listed for 249.00 at the same time. I own one of these, but to be honest, I've never really put it through the paces. I would think it would be a good amp cab mic, too.
