I dont really understand why so many people hate or dislike southern rap so much and say its not hip hop..... i mean i kno a lot of um talk about the same stuff but its just club music and when u think about it the MC aka master of ceremony start out as just somebody who rapped while the DJ did their thing..... the MC whole purpose was to just keep the party going aka get it crunk..... im not sayin I like all southern music its a bunch of people i just dont like but at the same time I think its just as much hip hop as anything else..... let me know yall thoughts on this

Because some people are used to the sounds of Old School hip hop when it was mostly about the word play and structure. It was an urban poetry back then.
Southern rap song consist mostly of a hot beat and a simple lyrical flow.
I cant speak for everyone but thats just my two cent. I dont really like sourthn rap but to me if you have nothing good to say then dont say anything at all.

I agree, it's all Rap/Hip-Hop.

At first though I hated the early (nationwide) southern rap though because they didn't really have an identity yet and in all honesty (imo) sucked. I couldn't make the transition of at the time listening to Biggie, PAC, Nas, Wu-Tang, Dre, DMX etc... etc... To listening to Master P or Cash Money. I remember I was in like 11th grade when Juvenille's "Ha" came out, up in D.C. we laughed so hard at that song and thought it was really a joke. Same with Mystikal, we clowned him too. Lyrically and production wise they weren't up on the level of most of the major artist at the time. Same with the Hot Boys, if you listen to the production on Bling Bling it's terrible, same with Lil Wayne's early stuff like "the block is hot" (a mannie fresh beat too I think). I gave them a chance but they sucked imo so I can see why people never gave them a second chance. They all have grown and got better (except for Master P ...lmao) but some people still go off of first impressions. However Outkast and Goodie Mob always got my respect from day one. There's WAY more southern rappers I respect and like today than 4-5 years ago or so.

A lot of the southern Rap today though is terrible... Franchise Boyz, Young Joc, Young Bloodz, D4L, Lil Flip, Paul Wall, Yin Yang and good ole MIKE JONES!! If it weren't for the different names to me they'd all be the same rapper...lol Sure they can make the club/flashy dance song but what else can they do? I think that's why a lot of people dont respect the south.

Truth be told people up north and out west view southerners as dumb, it's a sad stereotype but a large amount of people actually believe that. That can also have something to do with it.

I think all of it is Rap but not all hiphop!
As far as Hiphop, which was a style as much as it was music, those days are done! We have spun off of hiphop to create many other forms of musical rap (Lil Jon, Dr. Dre, Bone thugz, Nellie, just to name a few different styles.....)
Urban society has changed and so has the music, so I don't expect it to still be the way it was. But those were the dayzzzzzzzzzzzz!

There are still some rappers who possess some old hiphop skill!

Couldn't think of a way to say it better

Me being from the South and listening to alot of Northern artist was crazy down here, people use to always bash what I listened to, like Little Brother for example, but I've just come to a point where I will give anything a try, sometimes songs have to grow on you

exactly.......

honestly... Ever time I hear a beat with 808's and hand clap snares I cringe. It's been over-killed. Not saying there isn't some good talent out there. Swisha house beats are alright ( I hate Mike Jones and dislike Paul Wall). I just think it's uncreative. I mean come on "money in the bank, shorty whatcha drink" Is not a chorus if you repeat it four times.

The one kid who raps for me grew up in Houston. Back in the day he knew Mike Jones and Paul Wall. From what I hear Mike Jones was spittin the exact same shit years ago too.

I'd believe that, because all his stuff is just elementary, sometimes I wonder how people even get on even if it is all about who you know. I wouldn't put my rep on the line for a Mike Jones. At the very least Paul Wall can be somewhat entertaining, I still don't like him though.

Damn I sound like a hater... oh well LOL

haha, it's just part of the game. How can you be the best if you don't believe it? The way I edit is I just hate on the stuff I make. I try and say what other haters would say.

Yes, rapping started in clubs but back then it was governed by skill.

Mental said alot...its not that they sucked...its was different form what you was used to listening to...alot of up north cats and other areas..dont realize the artist that you all have and are hearing now has always been underground and successfully..not until No Limit and Cash Money..did people really take notice..cause they were flooding the market with music when it didnt have a true hip-hop artist to listen to..and just we lean more to the beats then lyrics..cause hearing a tract beat in the club is way better then lyrics anyday..if it packs the dancefloor..

right now the southern artist gets a bad rap..cause they come to the majors(Lil Flip, Young Dro, Young Joc and others..) cause they have to change their flow to become mainstream artist to sell the records...like Mike Jones..havent changed nothing..but he promote his ass of..like Jezzy..and that why he sell..he stuck with what make him..promoting yourself...its done alot down south..

Jay Z..didnt have the sells in the south so what he do..he hooked up with UGK to get that..and on top of that , that put the South in the ear of up North..cause alot of people were like who them Texas Boys..

now everone is made because all thes souther artist is coming out from now where and the say their garbage...put people dont realize Record Companies invest in Unit movers..not no namers...if you sellin records(75,000+) they will come knowckin at your door...

**SIDE NOTE** that damn "Chicken Noodle Suop" song is from up North ..so dont act like only the souf do garbage music...:D LOL

People dont like change..but when their up north artist drops Albums not one supports them(Method Man)..but complains about southern artist hurtin Hip-Hop/rap..

we everyone is hurting it
