Hello,

I just recorded and mixed a song in my bedroom and was curious to know what people think of the mix. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Hey Brad, What is the name of the song you would like to review - there's a few on that page....

:( Oh sorry man, I thought I had given the direct link. The name of the song is Scientist.

Thanks!

Brad,
It's rad.
Sorry, I love it. A bit of They Might Be Giants and a whole pile of other stuff, had it been sinister I'd've even said a touch of Pere Ubu, but most of all it your own.
How did you keep yourself on track with all the changes?
The vocal on the intro - the word "can" causes a heap of pressure in my ears (h'phones) so you might need to reduce that a little & there are a couple of other transient bits that were, similarly, too loud for comfort. Hey, I like loud - but you know...
It's good to hear from someone who isn't afraid to air material this eccentric.
I'll have to listen a few more times to see if it stands repeated listenings but I really enjoyed it.
Why don't you update the link with a direct one. It'll be a hassle & you'll get fewer hits if folk have to cut, paste, click exit, come back in etc. just to listen & review.
The only thing "missing" is an occasional bit of rad panning to give it more psych appeal.
Well done & keep on...
Cheers

Nice tune man.
Cool and original arrangment.
gave me a beatles\beach boys feel.
Good sound.

Thank you very much for the compliments! Glad you both liked it.

Man, even with Protools to edit, mix and automate this stuff it was tough keeping track of everything. I think I pretty much reached my 32 track limit with LE. Fortunately I considered the song done at that time, and not because I was out of tracks.

Good call on the word "can" in your "cans" (sorry). My monitoring room is horribly untreated and I didn't pick up on how bad that plosive was. I guess I should always do a final check of the mix with headphones to catch things like that, because that's where I really heard it.

I'm assuming the worst transients are the screams (particularly the second one) so I will come down on those a little bit.

I tried to employ some panning movement with the reverse cymbal crash just before the breakdown and with those "sciencey" sounds, but maybe I'll get a little crazier with them next time.

It's awesome that this gave you a Beatles/Beach Boys feel. I love both of those groups like nobody's business, particularly their respective "adventurous" periods. I hope to one day be able to make records as half as good as those guys.

By the way, did anyone pick up on the fact that a drum machine was used? I spent a lot of time trying to get them to sound real, but I'll probably go into my favorite pro studio and replace them with real ones anyway.

Anyway, thanks for all the input - it really does help!
