Spread the Daf!
.................and man, I tried hard too! I just couldn't get it done in that much time. Maybe I picked something a little too ambitious.......but I really thought I could slam it down fast.....................crap!

Plus I'm a liar too, 'cause I said I'd post whatever I had at 1:30 and I simply didn't have it ready 'cause there were no vocals. And when I got the vocal down....I mixed it a few times....kept about three mixes and then deleted it! There was no going back. But still...........1:52.......crap.......ok; so I'm a liar AND a failure. :D

Well, here it is anyway.

My 1:52 Challenge Song

EDIT: By 1:52 I mean it took me I hr and 52 minutes so I went 22 minutes overtime, resulting in my immediate disqualification from the 1.5 challenge and banishment to the Microphone forum.

It's 2:24

You coulda said it took you 4 hours and I still would not have believed you....F*ck!Another one...Vox fun.:D

Actually I meant that it took an hour and 52 minutes to do the song.....longer than the 90 minutes it was supposed to be.......... oh well.....I'll have to try harder next time. ;)

Talent AND honesty... what a refreshing change. But your tune was twice as long as most, so I think you're still in the hunt. :D

Yeah, this is cool. I expected it to be good. I always put the Allman Bros. in a different class than most of the "Southern Rock" that they get dumped in with. You and Crawdad both have very broad ranges and tastes, which just shows how much you love music, I guess.

Man, this is really pretty humbling, b/c I keep listening for the big "F-up" that just HAS to be there in a project like this. Like on mine, when I mixed it down, I noticed there were crashes that just STOPPED about 1/4 of the way through...yep, they're there. This has nothing out of place.

(technical portion of post: do you roll all the lows off of your acoustics when you record them, or afterwards...or is it just a much better guitar than any of the 12 acoustics I have taking up space in my house?? :D ) Sounds great.

The acoustic is two guitars. One is a fairly high-end Takamine 12-string. I used a mic plus its' built in pickup on different channels and panned them about 10:00 and 2:00. But the bright sounding 6-string is actually my strat thru a Boss Acoustic simulator pedal.
And the lead is my strat (with EMGs) thru my new Marshall MG15 my wife gave me for Christmas. ( In fact, I woke her up doing this song.....oops! ) I put a mic in front of the amp and then on another channel I sent the effect signal from my delay pedal and panned those apart also.

I usually record everything flat and tweak later but this time I did everything up-front so there wouldn't be any need for mixing. All I really did was try to ride the volumes. And you can hear the mix changing as it goes along. In fact, the parts I'm playing all change as the song goes along 'cause I'm learning it and getting a little more of a feel for it. An interesting challenge.

OMG - This is not happening...TWICE. LOL. It's an electic guitar?!?!?!?!?!

You know something Steve, if you want a good laugh...check out some of my posts in Sluice's thread where I GUSHED over his acoustic tone (which turned out to be a synth patch), and then I VERY PROPHETICALLY stated that I'd probably say something equally as stupid within 24 hours. Yep, I know me all right.

Thanks for not laughing...I am.

One last comment....I did all of my tuning and hooking stuff up and tuning and any other set-up procedure before I started timing. I started timing when I pressed record.

And for the drums.....well, I saw someone else used a drum machine so I did too. I took a stock beat and just deleted certain things and added a bunch of fills.

Well.....it's a suprisingly good sounding pedal. I use it live sometimes 'cause I don't like to fool with an acoustic on stage. But it only sounds good with a hot guitar. For some reason, lower output pick-ups don't drive it right and it doesn't sound as good. That's actually the reason I used the particular guitar I did.....so that pedal would sound right.

Oh, no! Thats CHEATING, isn't it? :D

Seriously, this is a good take on one of my favorite Greg Allman songs. I never learned it simply because I didn't want to get too used to it by performing it all the time. You did a great job--lots of soul! I love that acoustic sound. Gotta get me a couple of 12 strings now! Its all your fault! :D

I`m at verk right now, but I`ll getting it in the am when i get home.

dammit Lt Bob -- you did this in under 2hrs? Awesome -- even though I miss the sax ;-)

HOLY SHIT Bob, that's fucking awsome! You nailed it bro. I used to do this one in a band years ago. I'm humbled before the master! What can I say. You da man!!!

Steve, if my ISP hadn't crapped out last night around 12:47, I'd have responded earlier...

This sounds awesome at low volume (it's 5:14 AM...)... what a great voice; I'd forgotten. You & crawdad.... (& Track Rat... & mixmkr... ah hell... everyone :)) AFAIC, you didn't need to make it. It's just wonderful that you posted this song.

"cept his lil' so-o-on..." Friggin wonderful. Five.

Chad

LOL @ sam... the Lt. Definitely has that low vox thing going :D

Yeah Participant; I like Sams' new critiquing method with the gifs. I cracked up when I saw he put chef up for mine. I'm very flattered plus it's funny! Two birds with one gif. :D

i got a special fondness for that tune too man. You played that really good Lt. I`d have loved to lay the bass line with you on my jazz. I dont see how you pulled it in that length of time, there`s an incredible amount of stuff going on in that tune in a bunch of places. Cool cool cool!

:)

holy shit... just a tad under 2 hours and you crank out amazing shit like this? I've always loved this song and you sure do it justice. nice job!
