No kidding, those Ceriatones are cheap and they sound gooood. Now I'm gonna have to decide if my next purchase is that G&L or an amp kit... curse you!

So I just finished building a TC-15 Amplifier kit. IT LIVES!!

Well Done!

Now that you have tamed the fire in the bottle, and succeeded in getting the tiny electrons to do your bidding. You must promise to use this sorcery for only good, and never for evil.

Will you settle for incompetant good intentions?

Haha, why start now? :D

Clips! We want clips!

Clips for tips dude. I have never figured out how to get a recording of an amp to sound like what I hear. Nor do I have a clue how to post a clip here if I had it. I've spent days on mic placement and used a variety of mics but I've never gotten there. What works for you? The closest I've come is a sdc pointed at the edge of the cone about 45 degrees. I get a sound I can use but it ain't the sound I hear.

Got any tips? I have done the search and read the entire Harvey Gerst thread. I tried posting a question in the mic forum and gotten the collective groan and the big "IT DEPENDS". I know that's true but that truth isn't useful.

Help a geezer out. I'll take a risk on a $200 mic on a recomendation from somebody I don't really know. What the hell.

Of course ;)

Kit amps are a great learning tool. Take the knowledge that you've learned from this and apply it. I'm forever on the hunt for usable amps for modification. I have several that I've made from PA's, Hi-Fi's, vintage guitar amps that need repair, or whatever looks useful. Usually the transformers from these old amps are of very high quality. Most are point to point wired Which makes them great candidates for modification.

Two of my recent aquisitions are this Kalamazoo Model Two, and an amp from an old Newcomb R/R. The Newcomb has excellent possibilities with more gain stages than I could ask for. They both had some great vintage tubes inside. The K'zoo only needed filter caps. I paid $60 for it, $10 for the Newcomb which sounds great by the way.

(DISCLAIMER FOR THE MASSES)
THESE AMPS HAVE VOLTAGES THAT ARE LETHAL. IF YOU AREN'T FAMILIAR WITH PROPER PROCEDURES. THEY CAN KILL YOU!!

The K'zoo model two is one of the great under-appreciated low watt amps of all time. The K'zoo reverb 12 had a couple of different circuits. The one that ran a 12AU7 into 6EU6s is a best buy recording amp. LOVE-EM

I'm happy to report that the only thing wrong with channel 1 was a bad EF86 tube. Everything now works as it should.:):)

Thanks for letting me share
