So i bought a 10 dollar mic from amazon to use when i record videos on my phone but it doesnt seem to work. The part you plug into the phone has 1 black line if that helps.

The mic element inside many android phones is so similar to the one you bought that you might not even hear the difference.

Chances are your phone input is for a combo mic/headset (if it even has a mic input at all). And what they said^^
