i cant get my head around this

I recorded a backing track into cubase, done.

Now i wna play the track and record the vocals at the same time.Done

But the mic is feeding back through the computer output into the line in on the desk so the vocals sound wierd. How can i mute the vocals signal but keep the backing track coming through :|
 
that is with headphones, maybe i shudnt of sued the word feedback, basicaly i can hear 2 sets of vocals, one from the desk and the other coming bk thru the computers channel into the desk, i need the computers channel on so i can hear the backing track and sing along with it.
 
There is a speaker icon on the channel strip in cubase, turn that off so you don't hear yourself through the program. Also, you might have the (hardware) mixer set up so the output of the computer gets fed back into the input. You will need to re-route the signals to keep that from happening.
 
There are two basic types of feedback paths, acoustical and electrical. If you're using headphones then your feedback path must be electrical. Think through the routing, including SW mixers and patchbays.
 
you might have your computer monitoring the signal, as well as your interface. i would figure out how to stop input track monitoring and just use the interface's input monitor if this is the case.
