Im getting a new guitar, but i cant decide between 3...i dont mind having a floyd....so....but i want a guitar with good quality overall.

Schecter Synyster Standard

Schecter S-1

Schecter Vengeance Custom

Thanks for any help.

have you tried any of them? if i were you i'd go try them all out. you'll be in a better position to make a decision afterward.

Well, the Synster Standard is the odd man out - it's got bolt-on neck and is long scaled (25.5"), and has a wierd "modern rock" shape.

The S-1 and Vengeance Custom are both set-neck guitars with short scales (24.75") and are double-cut in the Gibson SG vein.

All have different pickups and I can't speak to the differences there.

As a starting point, I would say that if you plan on playing music that requires drop tuning, the Synster Standard might be the best choice because of its longer scale length. Conversely, if you have small hands you might be better suited for either of the other two models.

That's all I can gather from looking at the Schecter web site. You really should get your hands on all three and see which fits you and your style of music best.

Good luck!

I like the shape, and im just wondering what would be the best in quality. I like playing metal type music so..

Which shape do you like the best?

The Synster is markedly different from the other two.

Blind Revenge, I don't have any direct experience with Schecter guitars. All of their instruments (except the custom models) are manufactured in S. Korea and set up in the USA. Lots of good-quality guitars are coming out of S. Korea, for what that's worth.

I note that Schecter has endorsement deals with lots of nu-metal guitarists. Take that for whatever it's worth, as well.

I'm guessing their quality is about the same as Ibanez and all the other Korean-sourced instruments - acceptable.

Anyone else know anything about Schecters?

Thanks, Whats better Set neck or bolt on?

Neither. They differ primarily in the way they affect the guitar's attack and sustain.

Bolt neck guitars tend toward more attack and less sustain. (Stratocaster, Telecaster, etc.)

Set neck guitars tend towards less attack and more sustain. (Les Paul, SG, etc.)

If you are going to be playing through a high-gain amp with lots of overdrive cranked in, this distinction will be less evident.

I am going to agree with everyone who has posted something along the lines of "go play them first"... I owned a C-1 Plus for a while and that neck would leave my left hand in pain after a show with it, it was one of the set neck guitars. My recommendation would definitely take a seat at your local shop, if at all possible, and play one for about an hour just to make sure your hands don't start to hurt.

And why, if I may ask, are you stuck on Schecter? They make decent guitars, but there are definitely other options out there around the same price range that are worth checking out...

Well, if they're good enough for Vai and Satch, why not have a look at Ibenez?
I don't know the $ differences between what you anticipate spending on a Shecter and what an Ibenez will cost, but I bet there's not much of a difference.

I played a couple of Schecter's last weekend and I hated the necks on them. Very flat profile with tall frets. Plus, the frets were almost sharp on the ends. The other guitar player in my band have a Schecter 7 string. It sounds good enough, but they don't play well at all in my hands and the quality just isn't there for me.

I played a several Schecters. I can't argue with the way they sound because they sound quite good and they are easy to play. I can't find one that will stay in tune though. If I find one that stays in tune I will buy it.
