I have been running cakewalk for awhile now. I needed more hard drive space so I added 10gig. I went up to a windows 2000,
and tried to install my soundcard.(sound blaster pci 128). When I did this my internet connection would not boot. I had to reinstall windows 2000,(after removing aol, and my soundcard program.) I tried this in many orders, I downloaded the new sevicepack, and updated my drivers. Still no luck. Any ideas for me?
Thanks in advance.

Very confusing... you said that you added a 10 GB drive -- was this as an extra drive or in place of the original drive?

Then you installed Windows 2000, then the soundcard... did you verify that the new drive worked before doing this, or did you start from scratch and install Windows 2000 on a new, raw drive?

Then you couldn't connect to the internet? (Internet connections don't "boot," by the way). I suspect the AOL software has a newer version for Windows 2000.

Do you connect via a modem? It's also possible that your modem needs new drivers. Or any one of a million other things.

It sounds like you are flailing around with limited knowledge. Take it to a reliable shop and see if they can help you out.

I believe win2k has native support for the Soundblaster pci 128. Did it work right after win2k finished installing?
So maybe you could have tried to remove your internet connection, and manually input it again.

maybe ludwig can restate his problem so we can all be clear about this. i read it about 10 times and am still unsure of whats going on.

a bit confused

sorry about the last post. I will try again.
I have a compaq p2, I have to run off the existing 3 gig hard drive.
I added another 10 gig(which I havent touched yet).
I tried to use my midi when I first installed windows 2000,(I used windows 98 before) when I did this the midi would only come thru my keyboard, The audio would go thru my pc speakers, but that was it. I was thinking that maybe I needed my soundcard software,(even though sound blaster is my mixer) its different then what I had before( no midi on the options) I hope this helps.
I know its confusing, and my experiance is very limited, any help would be great. Let me know if you need more info.
Thanks alot.

:) :) I'm still confused...

What if you do a fresh install of win2k (on the 3gig), with your soundblaster of course already in a pci-slot, and install your sequencer (on the 3gig), allocating the audio data to the 10gig.
Input your internet-connection stuff (password, DNS, etc.).
Connect the midi out (keyboard) to the joystick adapter (soundblaster).
Set the connections in your sequencer (midi-ports & audio-out).
I'm not sure which keyboard you use, but you might want to set 'local off', or something in that nature.
Where exactly does it go wrong?
