The Anti-Lambo
Seriously. So a few Months ago my Mesa Boogie DC-5 wouldn't turn on. So naturally I replace the fuse, still no dice. So I replace all the tubes, it was about that time anyway. Still doesn't work. So I drop off the amp at my local authorized electronics store and they tell me it will be a Month before they are able to look at it. Whatever, I have other amps I am using. No biggie. So they call me just now and tell me the problem: The pilot light was dead! Man I am teh stipud. Please give me negative rep for pure dumbness. :D

is there gasoline in the lawn mower?

btw. I don't know what a pilot light is or does. You're doing just fine.

You didn't check to see if the tubes were lighting up?

Maybe I'm not quite as stupid as you, but for about 20 years I thought that the tremelo circuit on my Fender Super was blown. Then I found out that unlike the reverb, the RCA jack for the tremelo footswitch has to have either a switch or a shorting jack plugged into it for the tremelo to work. It works fine. Duh.

Excuse me...do you know how to get to the medical school? I'm supposed to do a lecture in about 5 minutes and my driver's a bit lost!

Naw. I mean, you at least don't actively encourage people to do stupid things to their own instruments, and instead of reaching in there to try and fix it (electrocuting yourself in the process), when you couldn't figure out what was going on, you took it to a professional! Now, if you did the same thing AGAIN I'd have to question how you remembered to breathe, but once is just a learning experience. You are far from the stupidest person on this board.

I think we've all had those Homer Simpson "Duh-OH!" moments. What [IMO] opinion sets the stupid person apart is an unwillingness to learn from those experiences [like Homer], or who think all wisdom is to be gained simply from personal experience. In the fifty plus years I've been alive I'm constantly amazed by how much I don't know [and, conversely, how much more I can still learn].
You learned something--that's not stupidity in my book....

Don't sweat it, Burgundy. You live in a country where more than 50% of new High School graduates can't identify Florida on a map! No matter how dumb you think people are, they'll exceed your expectations. I've done some amazingly dumb stuff without actually being stupid. In order to be the dumbest person on this board, first, you'll have to refuse to accept what has happened, and drop the amp off at the dump. Then, pay the MSRP for your new Crate.-Richie

I had a similar situation with my amp. Turned out the water tank needed refilling.

Many years ago the washer in my apartment complex laundry room wouldn't turn on. I called the repairman for a service call, who came out and plugged it in.

A valuable learning experience, which has subsequently saved the day on several occasions.

Really, it didn't take them a month to get around to looking at it, it took a month for them to stop laughing long enough to call you. :p

BTW, can I have the old tubes? :D

Seriously though, we've all had our moments.........

Ill bet the asshole still billed you...didnt he?

These people seem pretty cool actually. They are charging me $6. Neat little shop where a bunch of engineers sit around burried up to their eyeballs in electronics.

Considering the indicator light probably cost them $2.00, I'd bring in a pizza when I picked it up, and write it off as a "stupidity surcharge".-Richie

Well if they give you a break like that...a pizza is in order...most people would have put the screws to you.

If these guys are like any of the tube amp guys I know, a case of beer would seem better indicated to me.
