This is my first computer. I have been trying to burn my own cds but, has had no success. I have managed to download music from napster into the My Files icon. Someone told me i have to turn mp3s into wave. Can someone instruct me on how this is done.

Ok step by step,

1. Make a list of the MP3's you want to burn to CD

2. Go to the store and buy the artists CD

3. Go home and listen to them on your newly purchased CD's

4. Kick your own ass for being a music pirate.

Being a songwriter I am deeply iritated by posts and people like these. I am all for filesharing on the net for personal listening on the computer because that will never replace buying albums BUT!!!!(BIG BUT) Downloading music to burn to CD's cause your too much of a tightass is just plain wrong.. I"ll tell you what come work for me and I won't pay you cause I am a tight ass as well and don't feel like dishing out the money. If you knew the hard work and all behind the scenes things that make up a song, as well as the dues payed you might not be such an asshole..

DISCLAIMER: Again I am all for filesharing on the net because I do not believe it will ever replace the purchasing of albums. It is when these people try to do this that I get annoyed. This is my hardwork, things I have lived, my art, it is not to be stolen..........

Even though none of the songs you are ripping off are mine, it is just as much my responsibility to at least say something.......

On that note...
I am just the opposite. I would rather someone listen to my music for free than not listen to it at all.
I've always said (and to some peoples surprise) that I would do it all for free, all my years of playing and writing and expenditures, just to see people love my stuff and enjoy it. Not a cent earned. To hell with money.
There are alot of things that I want that I will never buy because I can't afford it. That considered, either get it free, or never get it... I'll take the free ride sometimes if its available. I don't feel bad for it, and no one loses anything because I would never have bought it anyway.... If I was a rich bastard, I might feel bad for it... If I was rich I would buy anything I wanted...
Anyway, I understand you getting upset about it... but theres no reason to ream someone. There are plenty of people on both sides of the argument, and tossing names isn't going to make it any better.

NashStudio i have hundreds of cds in my archives that i have BOUGHT from music stores. I don't give a fYck what your opinion is of me copying music off the net. Maybe you will write some music i can COPY off the net, in short, you can go to straight to hell. Everyone else that tried to help, your effort is much appreciated. This is my first computer but, not my first time dealing with azzholes on the net.

Ok 4-SKIN and Nash, lets play nice....we can all have opinions without kicking each others ass.....(damn, did I say that?)

Open up the software then....

1 - click on open

2- find the file you want to convert

3- click on File

4- click on Save As

5- in the box "save as type" choose "wav"

6- for "file attributes" choose "16 bit stereo signed"

7- hit Save

If I have confused you, go to Help, Contents, under HowTo there is a write up on Converting Files....

Justify it to yourselves all you want its wrong and thats all there is to it.. (*Again there is nothing wrong with filesharing but its the burning it to CD thats crap. If you listen to it and like it BUY IT.)*

Oh and 4-Rings it sure is nice to see you come back with such a clever name "Azzholes" Kind of explains why you are doing what your doing...

If you knew who some of the writers of songs were and the hell we go through to get cuts and hope we can make a living at it you would understand. I have lost my marriage and made quite a bit of sacrafice to get where I am today. Face it burning to CD's is stealing and against copyright laws its not just me its the friggin LAW.

Maybe if you were a songwriter for a living and not a child out of school for the summer you would understand..

Record companies made empty promises for years that CD's would eventually drop in price as the medium became more prevalent and the manufacturing process more efficient. They haven't lived up to that promise--in fact, prices have gone up! Has the artist's cut increased proportionately?

Choose your battles.

The damage that I do to a starving artist couldn't hold a candle to the theft that record companies routinely commit as common business practices. Fuck em.

You do know that a songwriter that writes a song alone without a co-writer only makes 7.1 cents per mechanical copy sold. I find it sad that someone could justify stealing so easy.. I guess I should run on down to my local Walmart and go steal from them because they make so much money on things and they are so big they don't need the money.... There is no difference, there are no opinions here its stealing hands down. And the law also says its stealing.. I am really having a hard time seeing people who rag on people for using hacked software but don't think this is wrong WOW what a double standard...

And Lazyboy who would agree with you,

Record Labels: HELL NO

Artist: NO

Writer: NO

Yourself: Sure why not..

Nash, can you honestly say that you've NEVER taped a movie off of television before? The studios that make the movies probably feel the same way you do. Movies are copyrighted and they probably think that people should just to buy the video. It's something we all do, so how can you be so harsh on someone when, let's face it we all have done something similiar. I do understand were you're coming from and it's one thing to voice your opinion, but it is possible to state your opinion without personally attacking other people who have different opinions.

You can use winamp to create a wave file. I'm too lazy to tell you how right now, but it's easy to do.

As for piracy and napster, here's a rant:

I just found out my music is all over the thing. I have mixed feelings about that, but actually I don't much mind.

I tried it out, I traded rare live concert stuff for rare live concert stuff. I didn't care about CD tracks I could just buy, and actually it was pretty cool. (I also booted anyone trying to DL from me who had no collection or who's collection was not like mine, stuff you CAN'T buy, just fan stuff, ya know.)

I gave even that up on ethics.

We are at the frontier of something new, something big. Anyone who busted into mp3 format for promotion and such the past few years are somewhat pioneers of independent music. I'm proud to have been there. Napster made mp3 a dirty word. Too bad.

This technology made it possible to collaborate with people around the world, do amazing things, make your music available to anyone with a computer and some know-how. Amazing. Sad conclusion.

End of rant.

Another story:

A long time friend of mine asked me if he could "copy" my (now very old) cakewalk. I reluctantly agreed, very reluctantly but he was a good friend and not exactly rich.

A few days later he asked if he could photocopy the manual. I went off the wall and told him to buy the F*(king thing. It didn't help our friendship much and it was another year before we were really hanging out again.

Sometimes it sucks to be ethical.

whatever

Half the new music being downloaded is crap anyhow. I don't use Napster, never have and never will. That's my choice. It's not an ethical decision for me...i just don't want to waste my time downloading someone elses music when I should be expending the same energy writing my own. The Major record labels are brutal savages in promoting T & A mascotts and boy wonder 5 minute heart throbs. CD's prices should hit the floor...In age when music is often recorded on DAWS what the heck is costing soo much? Advertisement... Sell the product before you even hear it.

Nashstudio,

You just don't get it do you.

1) If its electronic, its not stealing.

2) If you have a good enough reason, it's not stealing.

3) If it happens to you, its stealing.

(I edited this message, because as some have pointed out, my subject of attack seems to have been joking...)

My thoughts on Napster and file sharing: I think of music as practically public domain material. You hear music on the radio 24/7.. are they "pirating" the music? No. Yet, it's free for anyone with a radio to listen to. Sharing music is nothing new, and I have a hard time understanding why Napster is seen as such a horrible thing when radio stations have been doing nearly the same thing for God knows how long. KnowwhutImean?

An FYI...

Er... radio stations PAY record companies license fees to play artists records..........

So no, it's not "free" - it's free for consumers, but they get to hear radio adverts.......

So comparing recording off of Napster and recording off the radio are two COMPLETELY separate concepts... Napster pays nothing to the record industry (so far!) - hopefully that will change........

Prism - also, I think Kaydis was making a bit of a joke. The third line's the punch line. ha ha

Here, I'll do it too... Alright, everybody, now listen up - Napster isn't *stealing*, Napster's just *not paying*.

Whoops... my bad. Well if it was a joke, I'll take back any sarcasm or slander I might have done. And I realize radio stations must pay licensing, but in the end, a consumer gets it for free. Although in this case the ethical argument is kinda not in my favor! :-D

At any rate, most of my downloaded music is from the 60s...where do you get that music anyway? Cheezy compilations mostly, it seems.. unless you dig vinyl. I only buy music if it's cheap. $14.95 for 12 songs, 2 or 3 of which I might like, does not appeal to me.

Man, I should have known better than to post! I always end up feeling stupid in the end.
