hello and thank you for reading this.
I am a newbie and have been using an audigy 2 zs sound card to
record music with propeller heads reason.worked fine except some latency issues.Just recently upgraded
to m-audio 2496 card in hopes of even better audio production except now I have no function of my midi
keyboard.Major bummer here i have read that the card
doesn't have built in midi or something to that.I have been all over the web hoping to find some info to no avail.I hope someone can assist me me in what i need to do to be able to use my keyboard with reason and other vst instruments
i am using:
xp pro
athlon xp1900
512 ram
audiophile 2496 sound card
agp graphics

thx

thanks for the info it will be nice to have @ least half the equation.. :)

Well yeah .... it will give you MIDI in and out of your computer.
It doesn't contain it's own hardware synth, but you'll be able to use your MIDI keyboard's sound module or control a virtual instrument using samples or sound fonts (if the VSTi/DXi supports sound fonts).

midi interface

not to sound too idiotic just want to have a complete understanding..
right now I have an audiophile 2496 card that doesnt work with my midi keyboard because the 2496 doesn't have the capabuilities built in to it?
so I need to buy what is called a midi interface which will allow me to use my keyboard once again to work in reason using reasons soundfonts or any? "Host application" that uses vst instruments or pluggins?
Again Don't mean to sound "idiotic" And I appreciate you all

Don't you already have midi I/O with the audiophile?

Midi

all I know is I could use reason with my keyboard with audigy 2 zs.
Now I can't with 2496..

I don't know if you didn't get all the stuff with you or what, but the Audiophile 2496 does have a MIDI interface and a a ZZounds states below

" and MIDI I/O provide connectivity to both digital devices and the world of MIDI. "

Check it out for yourself here http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--MDOAP2496

Just read the manual that came with the card. It has to explain it on there how to set it up for MIDI, and at 512 with that card you should have a very low latency.

Here is the M-Audio website for the Audiophile 2496

http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Audiophile2496-focus.html

and here is the userguide

http://www.m-audio.com/images/en/manuals/Audiophile2496_Manual.pdf ;)

6. MIDI Input: This 5-pin DIN accepts MIDI data from any external MIDI device,
via a standard MIDI cable. Supports up to 16-channels of MIDI data on a single
cable.
7. MIDI Output: This 5-pin DIN outputs MIDI data to any external MIDI device, via
a standard MIDI cable. Supports up to 16-channels of MIDI data on a single cable.

Doh .... What was I thinking? :D
The AP2496 does have MIDI in and out.
What you've read about it, is that it doesn't have it's own hardware synth like the Soundblasters.
Most likely you just need to setup the 2496's MIDI ports within Reason, as it may still be looking for the Audigy's MIDI ports.
