I actually managed to break my 57

Today I was doing some recording with my 57 on the snare and, after two or three good whacks, I noticed that the top part was slightly angled in respect to the body. I ignored it until I was done recording, and it still worked just fine, but I popped the top off afterwards to see if I'd hurt it (I had managed to crack the plastic) and the little wafer, which I'm assuming is the diaphragm, is now only half glued to the metal part, meaning that it is possible to lift half of it off of what it's supposed to be attached to. Should I try to glue it back on, or is that asking for trouble? Will the top part hold it down anyway? It'll probably still function as is, but I imagine it works best when everything is attached properly, so I'd like to fix it if something's wrong...
 
Nevermind... it seems that, in opening it up to examine it, the copper wire connected to the diaphragm broke. Not at a convenient point, either. So I don't think there's anything I can do about it.

I've never broken a microphone before... am I supposed to hold funeral services?

You could send it back to Shure to have it redone last I knew it cost $60.

Right now I have 4 broken 57s on my work bench they are now hammers.

Hammers seems like a more useful purpose. I can get a better mic for $40. I only actually used the 57 as a snare mic because I didn't like it on anything else. Well, I don't actually like it on snare, either, but it was SUPPOSED to be invincible, so it seemed like a good place to put it. Ah well, I'm getting an Audix mic pack sooner or later.
 
The 57 clone from Audix is a bit brighter than a Shure 57 if that's what your going for in the sound of your snare.

I'd do a reading from the manual but.....

Here, will those Sennheiser mics be there ? And the nerve of those AKGs threatening to show up. Everyone knows they hated each other on the drums....
 
You could bury it in your yard.

A little headstone.....word would spread and people would leave windscreens, airline bottles of booze, farewell notes....it could be lovely.....:drunk:
