Assuming you're going digital and are either playing acoustic or electric and already have an amp:

you'll want an audio interface (something that will connect with firewire/usb) or a mixer that you can plug into your computers sound card, probably through the mic input. get a mic...at this point probably invest in one or two cheap mics. XLR cables for your mics. A digital audio workstation (DAW), probably something like cubase.

Assuming you're going analog:

Get a 2 or 4 track tascam that records to cassette and buy a mic and an XLR cable.

The coolest part is that your actually getting into doing this and seem excited about learning. Have fun and start enjoying the craft
