i have a dual intel xeon 2.4 system and read that you shut off the Hyperthreading because it causes crackle everytime HT interrupts the cpu for another process.

These two terms do not belong in the same sentence. The IA 64 is dead, and amd doesn't do hyperthreading. Their tech is called hypertransport and it has more to do with system bandwidth than pre-emptive multitasking. Hyperthreading is all intel, and for audio you need to disable it because it causes crackle everytime HT interrupts the cpu for another process.
