Hello first of all thanks for checking out this thread. My 16:2 mixer is going to an amp then to my speakers. When i do this i do not hear any electronic noise or interference with the mixer. Now when i plug it directly from the left and right out on the mixer to my computer i get a very annoying loud humming noise. Now i know the wires that are going to my pc are working because it works fine with the tape out on my p.a. There is also an unbalanced line out for r.c.a. adapters. I use these and i still get the sound. I need to figure out what the problem is. I want to use the mixer instead of the p.a. because it has more channels. I dont know if the mixer is just screwed or if there is something i can do to fix it.

Hi,

Is this humming noise affected by the level controls on the desk? What I mean is does the hum get louder when you push up your mains faders (or channel faders) or is it constant?

Power

Also, make sure that your line outs are not crossing any power cords. If they have to cross power cords, do so at a 90 degree angle.

Otherwise you might have a bad filter capacitor in that section.

Make sure you're plugged into the Line In on your PC sound card and not the Mic In. This is probably the most common error in first-time PC connections.

Also make sure that your mixer lines steer well clear of your computer monitor, especially if you have a CRT instead of a flat screen LCD or plasma.

Try to keep your lines from your mixer as away from the PC itself as possible. I know you actually are plugging into the PC, I mean try not to have your cables running right alongside the PC any more than is necessary. Try running your cables as far away as you can from whichever side of your PC it's power supply is located.

It's entirely possible you have a noisy input on your sound card. If so, replacing the sound card is (minimally) wht is needed.

Hey i have found something different. I have tried to get the rca cables as far away from power as possible. I have discovered that with out the pluged in the noise stops. Even if power is off to mixer. It seems like it is definately electrical interference. I just dont know how to fix it. If anyone can help let me know. I have tried to mess with every setting it doesnt matter. As soon as power reaches that stack i get interference.

Are you using a Dell? I have found that when I have my dell plugged into the wall it has a nice hum in the background. As soon as I unplug it and run it off the Battery it is clean. Same thing happens on my father in-laws dell's. go figure?

When do u receive these humming noises? when you record or when the mixer is at a non-recording idle state?

Monitor

Turn off your monitor... Is the noise still there?
