Humiliated (again)

O.K. I have finally decided to try to take on the challenge of learning midi
I'm not sound engineer but have been working with audio a couple of years and hava had a real aversion to midi. However just traded for a keyboard. Hqve worked throught the learning curve of several sofware programs but having brain cramps with midi.

I use n-track as my software.
I'm to this point. I can record a midi track along with some previous audio tracks. But the midi tracks play back through the keyboard not my monitors.
Also how do I change the midi tracks to audio?
Any help or pointing me in a dirction I can learn something is much appreciated.
I don't mind the learning curve but I'm off the road before I have reached the curve!!!

If it makes you feel any better, I've been doing this for around 20 years and I STILL don't speak "MIDI."

I have a three-year old - I think I speak more "Disney" than MIDI and I don't even watch Disney...

I recently bought a Motif and I haven't even tried the electronic tape recorder or its sequencer to date. I bought the board for its great patches and to keep learning. But, since I have a SIAB, I haven't jumped into the sequencer learning curve, YET.

Maybe sometime but not now--so, keep plugging away.

As someone who has been working with MIDI ever since it came out I can only offer 1 suggestion.

Determine the absulate must have MIDI functions and learn those first. As an example, you need to know how to assign a MIDI send channel on a master controller and a MIDI recieve on a module.

Once you have those basic, must have functions down the need for other functions will pop up here and there as you expand your MIDI application - you can then learn those functions "one at a time".

If you try to tackle all the various MIDI applications at once you can get so overcome with tech paranoia that you simply walk away.
