Hey, here's a progressive metal song/mix that's been brewing for about half a year now, it's so close to being done, there's just a couple things I have to do, one of those things is get some feedback from the amazing engineers on this forum! :)
There's just one thing though... I'm having trouble taming the harsh frequencies without having vox/cymbals/guitars sound flat... or maybe it's just too bright of a mix? I dunno :(

If you guys could have a listen and let me know if it is way too piercing that would be fantastic! I'll go back and try and make a compromise on the mix. I invite anyone with any insight on this EQ-balancing issue or any other opinions to step forward, I'm all ears! :)

Happy Christmahannukwanzaa everyone!

I think everything sounds great man! The vocals are my only nit. Too on top IMO. The bass guitar could use a bit more subs, but that is really just a taste thing.

Nice work man!

Thanks Jimmy!
I'll go through those two things, I probably should take a listen to the song through a system with a sub :D

Cheers!

sounds top notch to me. Nothing is out of place, sounds exactly like the genre should. No surprises. Which is a good thing. I like the tone of the guitars and the toms specifically.

Sounding good man! Everything has its place, for the most part nothing sticks out too bad. I agree that the vocals are a little high. I'd take some of the flubby low-end of the guitars down and let the bass take care of 'em. As they are, the low end from the guitar chugs are more prominent in the stereo field than they need to be. If the drums are programmed, try programming a little bit of variance in the snare rolls/tom fills to add a little bit more realism.

The epic keyboard/choir is more prominent than I'd prefer, mostly because when it goes out, it sounds like something is missing from the mix. Singing at 1:23 comes in a bit hot, a little bright, and a bit under-compressed.

Over all nice job dude.

I can't really give you any advice but the track sounds great! I really like it.

Is this prog now? I'm old enough to hear this as Death Metal.
The not throat rip components sound really rather good but, I have to apologise: the growl makes me giggle.
I like the music generally & the non growl is a bit Linkin Park I guess.
The kick drum is better than the genre calls for - there's more meat & less click so you've made it more to my tastes.
The bass gets a bit lost - it'd really help to add 5db at 3khz with a Q of 3 to give it some more definition when all the guitars are playing.
The issues that concerned you woould probably be taken care of quite nicely by a good mastering Engineer.
Good work!
