HP CD-Writer Plus 8200i

Have seen an ad on the net for the hp cd writer 8200i (actually I searched for it after seeing one in a comp store). It's a bit less expensive than in the store. I've been visiting this site for over 2 months and respect the opinions of you folks. I've got a good comp/powertracks/cooledit/sound card that could be better, but is ok/488 MKII/ancient Teac 3340S/ok mixer. Would the HP be a fairly hassle-free way to burn songwriter (not performer) demos, playable on any cd, that I could send to publishers instead of my tapes made from the Tascam? Uh, in other words, have you heard anything bad about the HP? I use a Yamaha keyboard, Alesis drums,old gretch bass, Telecaster, and my fave, a really beat up Silvertone. Have an old Music Man amp to use with the gits. Thanks for any input you can give me!

I'm happy, now, w/ my HP 8100i (I think that's right -- I'm not at my home computer), but it came with massive frustration, and 1/2 was HP's fault.

HPs fault -- their software conflicted w/ "bus mastering" --something I never really understood, so the !@#$%^&*! thing just wouldn't record. After hours of frustration, I found Intel had a bus mastering update which allowed it to work w/ CD-RW's. HP was advising disabling bus mastering. There was no hint about this on the box, in the documentation, or during the installation process. I think the installation program should have a warning that said "Hey, you! You've got bus mastering which is conflicting with your new CD-RW. May I take care of this problem for you? []yes [][no)."

I never though I'd have to dive that deep into my Device Manager to get a CD-RW from HP to work. Apparently this was a common problem for people who had motherboards built by Intel and added Cd-RWs. I was very disppointed with HP that they didn't do a better job of dealing with this problem -- like at least detecting the problem during installation and providing a warning.

Mostly my fault -- I bought some generic blank disks, and I eventually figured out that the first two I tried were defective. Just bad luck. However, it wouldn't have killed Adaptec to have their software (bundled with HP's CD-RW) TELL ME that the problem was defective disks. Instead, I got no error message and the program simply terminated.

But, now it works fine.

I bought an OEM CDR manufactured by HP and I had a ton of headaches due to poor manualship(???)... uh... documentation...
I finally had to hire a private detective to find out how to configure my system for it to work... now it works fine.

I think that HP CD writer plus 8200i.Though the device is old but it works with very efficiently.I had seen this device & I like it.But I want to know more about their features. If anybody know about this can pm me.
