How's this mick's?

I just finished this tune today...It's a cover of "Sympathy for the Devil"...I'm not expecting anyone to get excited over a cover tune, but I want to put one cover tune on my CD, and this is the one. I already posted an older version of this in the "COVER" thread...But I re-did it with all real instruments. The older version had programmed percussion and direct guitars. This is all live persuccion and miced amp, etc... Anyway, if there is anything wrong that stands out, I'm open to suggestions...thanx

Good job on the Jagger.

The feel is a little Spin Doctorish. Nice falams into the breakdown, RAMI!!

Whoah! "Spin Doctors"...I forgot about them...They were ok, actually. Something about Cryptonite, if I'm not mistaken.

Downloading now....(!@$@#!%$@ dialup....) Will listen tomorrow.....

Wow Rami, That was really good. Your vocals are awesome!
I really like the drums on it!
And are you playing the guitar parts? They are very good.
Who is doing the backup vox?

So many questions eh?

At 1:25, I can feel as it starts to come togather.
It getting really tight around 2:00...love GuiTaR AT 3:00, and at 3:45 it rocks so much, that I forgot I wasn't listening to the original!!
At 5:16 the guitar gets me goin'.
Percussion is great also.

Great job Rami!

The mix sounds great to me!! I have no negative comments whatsoever!!! I've listened around 10 times so far, and I like it more and more. This should be a great cover song for your CD.

Thanx True...So many questions and so few brain cells to remember them all.
I'm doing everything on this. I always doing everything alone on all my songs. So, yes, I'm doing the backing vox also, and the guits, etc...
The percussion is bongos, brushes on my snare, and since I didn't have any real shakers, I used a jar of pepper and a jar of little miniature candies that you sprinkle on cookies...haha.
The first half is pretty true to the studio version, and when it picks up, it's more like one of their live versions from an 1969 album.
Thanx alot for the comments. I always make the mistake of mixing the same day I finish tracking, which isn't always a good idea.

Doing everything?!!! Awesome talent!!
Bongos! Hah! I thought they were Congas. LOL...as far as the shakers go, I have an assortment of homemade oneS. From lentils to rice!!! :D Always good to be creative. Of course this is coming from a person whom does the voice box jam as a human geetar!!! :D

By the way, keep up the mistakes, they turn out so well for you! ;)

RAMI, excellent job. You stayed true to the original, while putting some good, modern touches to it. Mix is very good. :)

Impressive Rami.
All Rami, very impressive.
The guitars are buggin me though. they just dont do it for me. sound kinda flat (not in a tonal sense though).
What is your guitar set up, tell me everything if you please.
good song to cover, i love this tune.

Thanx Dog, I love this song...Only hope I did it justice. It's fun to get away from writing once in a while and LEARN parts as opposed to WRITING them.

Thanx Eck. My guitar is a strat through a YAMAHA DG Stomp, through a Peavey amp, just using the speaker and micing it with a AKG C1000B.

Not a very informed critique, i know but it sounds professional to me.

Amazing that you do all that yourself... How in the world are you able coordinate something like that, as far as the drum interludes, solos, vocals, shakers, Do you write all your songs out before hand on sheet music? It comes together just like a band grooving it time, great work.

Thanx alot. Well, I'm far from being the only one here does all their stuff alone. I'm sure everyone works differently, but I don't write anything down. I just lay down a click track or simple drum beat and start layering. This song was a little easier in the sense that, even though I came up with some new parts, I didn't have to write it. On my originals, it takes a lot more trial and error and re-recording, etc...As many people on this site can attest with their own music I'm sure.

Im not sure what part of your chain is producing the sound i dont like. Please dont take what i have, said as a diss.

I know Peavey guitar amps arnt too great as ive used them alot and they usually sound pretty thin. If you have an SM57 or(and)58 give them a try. Play about with positioning.
Dont mean to dictate to you, just want to help with your guitar tone.

Try bringing the mics back a wee bit and playing with your stomp box more.
Eck.

Thanx man, I'll definitely work on that. I'm not a guitar player, so this is the kind of advice that helps me. Just for the record, I'm only using the speaker from the Peavey, not the amp itself, but I'll try a 57 next time and play with the positioning. Thanx, man.

Man I like this song - and this is a very good cover. I especially like the sound of the vocal and gtrs. I think the bass could have more low lows and high end to it. You're giving Jagger some competition on this.

OK, on the critical side I'm noticing that the vocal is flat on some of the high notes. But I'm hyper-sensitive to everything pitch-related today for some reason so I probably won't think the same thing tomorrow. :D

Rami, I think the overall tone of your voice fits this kind of tune exceptionally well. :)

Tim

Thanx Tim...The vox are flat at times, but I left it loose and first take. I didn't want to start re-doing lines unless they were really off, so I think I re-sung maybe 2 lines in the song. Thanx, Tim

Well, I happen to love covers, as it shows where peoples roots might lie. A cover can either be very close to the original, as your is, or sound very much like the artist(s) wrote it themselves....Sepultura doing Bullet The Blue Sky....Derek Greene sounds nothing like Bono, and the tune is pretty hard, but is just a great rendition...

Yours is very Stones like, but with some modern touches...I hear the original in it, but also know it is by someone else..."Jazzed" up a bit, but not too far from the tree.....

Excellent....

was going to try and give you a rep point, but im not aloud yet. What set up are you using for recording? FXs, pre's, recorder, not in any order. im interested.
sorry to be nosey!

I have a TASCAM 2488. It's a 24 track, but I don't think I've ever used more than 8...maybe 10. I keep things very simple. I track with no effects and very little compression. I have 2 Alesis micro-verbs that I use on the drums and one on the vox. That's where I get my effects from. I also have an Alesis 3630 compressor that the snare and kik go through on the way in. That's pretty much it.
