Sounds like the overheads are out of phase or you're getting some weird reflections..

Should I do the recorder man method? Xy. Gly johns?

What is stereo pair..? I'm a noob, sorry..

I meant "spaced pair". Sorry.

Google it. In fact, google "stereo miking techniques".

You'll get a ton of info.

There's many ways to skin a cat. You need to find which technique works best for you in your room. Recorderman used to work for me, but I moved my kit and now use Spaced Pair. Some people use X/Y. You need to experiment. Keep your drums in one spot, hopefully in the middle of the room, and tune em up. Set up an overhead pair and record a simple beat. Save it. Set the overheads in another configuration, touch nothing else, and record the same simple beat. Save it. Set up the overheads in yet another configuration, and record the same simple beat. Save it. Keep doing this until you've tried a bunch of setups. Then compare and see which one sounds best.

There's something wrong. Your music sample has something going on in the right channel. Listen to the first fill.
