Hey guys, I haven't been on here long enough to know if this will work or not. We do this sometimes on other message boards, photoshop competitions and things of the sort.

The way it will work, is I'll provide a back-up track of a rhythm-guitar and drum. You guys all have to play a solo over it. Anything goes, go all out Satriani or do what you want.

It's just for fun, and there's no official winner, but it would be cool to see what everyone comes up with.

The track is something I made in Reason 2.0, I use to warm up and to get into a guitar mood mostly, and practice my speed / precision / improvising skills. It's a VERY simple loop, with nothing really happening with the drums and rhythm, just so that it stays out of the way so you can concentrate on your guitar playing.

What do you guys think? Can this work?

Here's the file : RIGHT-CLICK > SAVE AS ...

I guess nobody gives a shit. :D

It's okay, my feelings aren't hurt. ;)

I am downloading it. I'm not a great soloist, but it might be fun or challenging.

edit: there's no way I'm gonna solo for 3:50.:D , but I'll play something.

Hey, it's all in good fun.

I'm gonna need more time here so I don't embarrass myself. Probably be done tomorrow.

3:50 of the SAME progression does not work for soloing over. You need to throw a Chorus in there at least 2 times and maybe a bridge......the same progression does not take a guitarist anywhere creatively. This progession is ok but you need some changes to give the soloing a chance to reach peaks and valleys.

C'mon, Kramer, just because the loop is 3:50 doesn't mean you have to solo that long... EDIT, my friend, EDIT...

are you kidding, carlos santana has been playing over the same progression for the last 40 years!

Whatever. This is the equivilent of singing ONE verse of a song over and over for THREE minutes and fifty seconds..It doesnt work.

Al Chuck,
Editing WONT add new parts to the song. The deal in the original post of this thread is to take the loop and solo on top of it,NOT add Choruses and Bridges.

P.S.
Im not coming down on you Agtronic.I think it's a cool idea and maybe a lot of people will play along.I just dont feel like this ONE progression loop that never has any chord resolution is enough to solo over.

It's just my opinion of course so dont put a lot of stock into it.:)

I went to your website and listened to your tunes.

Very sweet bud! Vocals and guitar work is outstanding.

Sorry for the hijacked thread.

I'm not talking about that kind of editing, Kramer. I merely mean that if 3:50 of the same groove is too long, edit its length to one minute, or 16 or 32 bars, or however long seems right...

how do I post it for everyone? Maximum size is only 65000 bites on this site.

I just pulled a quick improvisation.

i don't know how you did the high quality mp3 link, but here's my incredibly low quality and short clip.

Sadly, it's the best I can do with this site's limit on filesize.

Took a lot out of the tone, but oh well.

Quick question-- what tempo did you record that at?

Gonna import into Guitar Tracks and play with it

I didn't record it with a click track or anything, or are you asking him?

Yea,I have the same problem with this progression;
it never resolves. But that sort of makes the challenge a bit more
interesting.I think the real challenge with a progression like this would be how a soloist could create the illusion of resolution.
Also, if this is a game, then all of us can record tracks for others to play over. This seems like a very cool idea to me.
