How'd they do that?

I thought i'd start a thread (hopefully it hasn't been done) where people post up questions about specific sounds/techniques in a certain song/album. Sometimes i want to know how some subtle noise was created but can't describe in words exactly what i'm even hearing. Sometimes i can't even distinguish a specific instrument. Post up a link to the song somewhere on the internets with the min:sec of the sound/technique in question and hopefully we can get some answers/ideas/discussion!!

I'm wondering how Nigel GoodWhatsisname gets that wonderfully crushed/overcompressed/distorted drum sound in Radiohead's OK Computer. I assume it's some cascading sequence of boutique compressors, but anyone with more precise insight, please weigh in.

Los Lobos has a similar sound in their highly under-rated Collosal Head CD.
