Optimus Prime
I think he's pretty good. I just recently became aware of him.

Yeah, me too. I was never a Pantera fan. But check out some of his earlier performances on you tube. Pretty amazing stuff. Really unique style too. Also, from what I understand, a really cool guy. Some friends of mine hung out with him a few times. They said he was really down to earth. Hell of a party animal too! R.I P. Dime!

I'm not a big shredder but I really liked listening to Dimebag. Great musician and was able to play some pretty serious metal without sounding repetitive or boring. Good 'ol Texas boy. - R.I.P.

Dimebag, while perhaps not the most virtuosic of guitarists, was still a master of pegging the kick-ass-o-meter, and what else is it all about? Dimebag rules.

Not a big Pantera fan by song, but I respect several characteristics about him...

You can almost ALWAYS know that it is him
His style is not only unique, but is very cool in and of itself
He has, in essence, completely redefined a generation of metal guys (at least in the 90's)

As Hendrix was to the 60's and Van Halen is to the 80's, Dime is to the 90's

IMO

Dimebag rules. He has such a unique style. I like Zakk a lot too.

Hahahahahaha.... haha.... heh.

Dead - yes he is, shit my a Pantera Fan at a Damage Plan gig.
Shredder - No he isn't, he's far too tasteful to be labelled a shredder!
Awesome - yes he is.

My favorite song is "floods".
He along with Kerry King are/were the masters of the dive bombs.
I believe he used a whammy pedal to do some crazy pitch expressions. I'm not much into that stuff anymore. I saw Pantera 4 times back thru far beyond driven to ther last.

Is the the greatest?.... I guess not but is Malmsteen, Vai, Eddie etc.. who the hell is? Some think Angus Young is. As far as Dimebag though, he's aggressive yet melodic, inspiring, talented, innovative and definitely one of my most influential players. It sucks so much that he died because I would have wanted to meet him one day and I'm sure his influence would have continued for a long time yet.

In a nutshell he motherfuckin rocked (still does too)

..... aw shit Angus fuckin rocks too

As I listen to him, I hear balls, and just a love for what he's doing. Definately not a poser.

He may not have been the best guitar player in the world, but I bet he inspired more people to play guitar than anyone in his generation. Except maybe Zakk.

Anyway, he just seemed like a cool mo-fo, and he had a killer heavy style.

Poser as in someone in it for the money? Correct, he absolutely loved playing guitar and was going to do it with or without pay. He was not a poser in that sense.

Was he a poser in the comparative of hair metal? Believe it or not, Panta pre-Phil was a hair metal band. He was "Diamond Darrel" in those days. So if you consider, say, spandex, giant hair, and playing songs that are about getting pussy-as opposed to smashing things-as poser, then he kinda was.

I was in a record shop in Dallas in '84, buying the last couple albums needed to finish my Zeppelin catalog, when he and the original band were doing an in-store promotion. He noticed what I was buying and we got to talking. He found out I played guitar and his eyes lit up and told me to never stop playing. He gave me a copy of their first album (one of those novelty see-through colored vinyl records) and circled his solo off the album.

I didn't say he was a poser. I've just never been into anything I've heard from him.

I can honestly say that I think he was a good musician though.
