How would you mic a drum set with these mics?

How would you mic a drum set with 3 SM57s and a D112? The kit has 3 toms, kick, snare, high hat, crash, ride, splash.
 
D112 on kick (umm... :rolleyes: ), 1 x SM57 on the snare, 2 x SM57 for the overheads. Yee...
 
I agree with Zander. If that's all ya got.....
Kik, snr and two overs. Just move the overs until you get the best balance.... or start with a simple stereo x/y.
I could think of worse situations to be in :p
 
Personally I'd put the D-112 in the kick (duh), a 57 on the snare and a 57 on the rack toms and the last one on the floor tom and just let the cymbals bleed.

I was thinking the same thing. I hate 57's as overheads...well, actually - I hate 57's for anything drum related. :p

Exactly what he just said.

I've been using 57's for overheads for 6 monhts now and my friend who does professional mastering said I'm actually getting a really good sound out of them. Not perfect, but I don't have condensers for the job, so they work for now.

I'd agree with this one the most and the simple reason why:



Depending on the style of music, you're gonna need more out of certain parts of drum. Rock dosn't have the same balance and sounds as jazz would.


So if it's rock, try the toms/snare configuration. If it's jazz or something like it, then overhead/snares are a good configuration.
