how to recreate this effect?

in the 2nd section the announcer is doing a radio station promo and his voice seems much deeper than it is through the rest of the demo. Does anyone know how to recreate this? I emailed and asked him what he did to get that sound, but he didn't tell me anything specific, only that he processed that track around 10 times. But what kind of processing gives that kind of sound? Thanks.

I am sure he is doing some kind of pitch shift to get that lower tone.

I have worked with pitch shifting of my voice, but I can't seem to get the same effect. And I already have a deep voice.? Thanks.

I guess I was thinking more in the line of a harmonizer than just plain pitch shifting.

If all you have is a basic pitch shift plug in, you could record your vocals many times and pitch shift them all, pan half the stack to the left and the other half to the right, and then add a touch of reverb.

I cannot guarantee you that it would come out the same effect, but that is what his processor sounds like it is doing to me.

a lot of it has to do with his voice as well. he probably did add a tad of pitch shift, but he probably has very good control down that low.

A really good pitchshift program out there is Metasynth. It's fun to play around with but for Mac OS only.

Also...he probably didn't explain much about it because he probably didn't do the mix.

According to him, he does all his own recording and mixing in his home studio. He told me what gear he used, just not the actual process. Oh well, I'll keep experimenting. Thanks guys.

It just sounds like he slowed it down and compressed the snot out of it. Most of it is his delivery and his voice.

He did a very complex and involving technique called "lowering your voice."

It's all in the delivery. If you can't do something as basic as varying the pitch of your voice, and are looking around for some sort of an effect to do it for you ... then you're probably not cut out for VO / narration yet. Keep working at it.

Actually, when I record my voice, I can say that part lower than what he's doing. What I can't seem to get is the edginess or whatever it is that gives his voice that character when he speaks that low. Oh well, I'll keep on trying. Thanks.

he's a radio personality...that's why they get the work they do. I'm betting his normal speaking voice is neither the low or the high energetic one. They're able to just turn it on with the flip of a switch. It's the same thing as other guys who can do multiple impersonations of celebrities, or different accents, etc.

It's called "rasp." And if you weren't born with it, then it can be aquired, in some circumstances, after years of smoking Marlboro Reds.
