say you got an effect rig hooked 2 ur amp

d'you apply reverb while recording as you would playing a gig ?

or after you tracked it to add more flexability ??

any sense in splitting the signal and recording the original guitar signal as well ?

I usually record everything dry unless there is a certain kind of effect I am after. If you record dry you can always add the effect later and remove it with ease. If you record the reverb, or whatever effect you are using, removing it later is almost impossible.

Splitting the signal is a great idea because you can hear it like you were playing live but record the dry version...

wont that reduce the level on your signal ?

what kind of device would one need to compensate for that loss ?

That is best done with a mixer if you have one....
