I want to record from an old record player to my computer. What should I do and what software do I need. Any help would be great. -Mitchism

What's up mitchism.

Connect your home sound system or mixer to your computer (I am assuming that your phonograph is connected to your home sound system or dj mixer).

You will need a L/R RCA to 1/8" stereo jack.

Home sound system/mixer OUT (RCA) connects to computer LINE IN (1/8" stereo jack).

I would use Sonic Foundry's SOUND FORGE editing program to record the songs (as WAV. files).

Then, I would convert the WAV. files into MP3 files (Sound Forge has file converter).

I hope this helps a bit. :)

I am sure some other people on this BBS will have some more idea's for you.

Peace

Spinster's got it down.

In most programs you will have to go to wave files first, and then convert them to MP3's. Adaptec's Easy CD Creator ver. 4 will let you extract from CD's directly to MP3, but I'm not aware of any programs that will go directly from Vinyl to MP3.

Another choice for recording software is Spin Doctor (this comes as part of the Adaptac Easy CD Deluxe edition). Spin Doctor also has some tools for cleaning up scratches, clicks, etc.).

You can get the Y-cord (RCA to 1/8" phone) at any Radio Shack.
