I've been tracking in the same room as my PC and the mic is picking up the sound of my PC. I'm assuming this is probably the fan. Any solutions? Can I fix this somehow or should I buy a new fan that is quiet? Thanks.

a short term simple solution without spending anything is to use the ptpa noise gate on a track. its very effective if you set threshold right.
and set the threshold . try a setting around -23 to -17 db . see if that works.
a way to tell is you want to set the noise gate threshold so that you dont cut off the real guitar signal. youll hear it when youve set it too high..eg...
-12db will cut off signal.
on a longer term basis a lot of studios put the pc in another area connecting
the kbd.mouse etc by longer chords.
or if you google and dont mind spending some bucks there are a ton of quieting solutions to make a quite pc.
peace.
ps..see my other reply to you in the 2496 thread where i posted some tips on guitar recording for you.

Haha, you are a quick one Manning! Thank you, I will try the ptpa noise gate for now as I don't really have another place to put the PC right now.

also HH...dont be afraid to go on the powertracks forums at pg. they are a great bunch of people with millions of tips and recording miles of experience.
particularly when you get deeper into this great package.
your just scratching the surface of a myriad of techniques/features. and the user forum can be an immense help. if you notice.. everybody helps each other like a family. with no nastiness.

peace.

If you wanted to, you can also buy fanless power supplies for the computer, as well as quiete CPU coolers.. Soon I plan to stop my computer from sounding like a vacuum cleaner..

I definitely understand what you mean by a vacuum cleaner. In my previous PC I had dual overclocked processors... which required far too many fans. Some nights I would wake up and think they were testing some sort of new hovering jet over my house... then I would remember it's my computer.

Anyway, I will have to look into a fanless power supply and whatnot because I can't work with what I've got now. Thanks for the advice.

i'd say stop the noise at the source...as long as you're willing to spend some money.
my computer's a little noisey too (despite buying fans that promised to be noiseless  ). but the noise comes from the CPU fan, the case fan, the powersupply fan, AND the hard drives. so you can see how the noise can build up when you add them all together. there's a place where you can buy quiet fans and whatnot at http://endpcnoise.com
I've been pricing the acoustic foam they have for computers. I have NO clue how much it costs, but looks like you can get it for about 80 bucks. And then you plaster it everywhere that there isn't a fan pretty much. Might be something to look into. Good luck.
