How To Make This Sound

Hey guys,

I was wondering what I would need to do with my keyboard to make this kind of noise.

Click on the "Media Clips" link under the featured keyboard and listen to "7 Synth Zone"

Notice how the notes tend to gradually change pitch like a "slur" instead of a regular note with attack.

How do I do this??
Would I need a specific type of keyboard??

sounds like a pitch change from the joystick controller

itd be pretty easy to record the midi notes in a piano roll view in your sequencer and tweak out the pitch bend to a similar sound

dont they give you the midi information for those songs along with your keyboard? demo songs

Sure, you have it. The pitch bend wheel needs to be set to +12.Play the note then move the wheel up. There is probably a utility button, hit that then look for pitch bend and raise the number to 12.
 
Guys, this is called portamento. It's found on most synths and keyboard. It determines the amount of slide from one note to the next (the portamento knob usually lets you control the speed at which this happens). Depending on your synth, it might only happen when you play one note while you haven't released the previous note yet, or from any note to the next. This is sometimes also called "glide".

This keyboard doesnt have portamento. it is a programmed pitch bend. It SHOULD be a portamento and that would be the preferred way to get the sound, but I'm pretty sure this keyboard cant do it.

My mm6 doesnt have portamento either, and it is truly baffling as to why they left it out, but they did. The only way he will get this sound is by using the pitch bend and setting it to an octave.

Also, the YPT 400 isn't my keyboard.

My keyboard is the YPT300.

And I'm pretty sure there's a way to add portamento, I'm just not sure how.

I read the online manual for my model and there is something about MIDI coding for Portamento.

I dont think there is a way to add it onboard. You might be able to with a computer or external midi controller. Lemme experiment with mine for a bit, if I figure it out I will let you know how.:D

The key is figuring it out.

Hmmm, I just looked at the mm6 implementation, and amazingly portamento is not listed:confused: Anyhoo, if you use a program like Sonar, you can add midi envelopes to externally control things like sustain and portamento.
 
Well, I own Cubase.

Do I need to hook up my keyboard to my computer every time I want to use portamento??
