I use a Mackie 1202 mainly for inputting condensor mics. Right now I am going into the 880EX using the Alt 3/4 outputs on the back of the Mackie. It works alright; but I am wondering if there is a better way to do it.
Any suggestions?

Channel inserts. You still get to use the Mackie mic pres (all four of them). You don't however get to use the Mackie's eq (and added noise) this way. I posted this question elsewhere and that's the answer I got. I've done this recording drums. I didn't even connect anything to the Mackie main out. Plugging the 1/4" all the way into the insert bypasses the Mackie main anyway (1202 manual P. 13). You can monitor this thru the 880.

Correct. Also, if you want to monitor your signal after the preamps, but before the VS880, without bypassing the Mackie main bus, just plug the 1/4" in until the first click in the insert (or plug it in all the way and pull out to the first click).
