How To Hear Myself?!

You Have No Idea.....
One of the people I work with says it's 100 times easier for him to record if he can hear himself in the headphones WHILE he's recording. And i can't figure out how to allow feedback I think its called to go back out through the headphones AND or monitors WHILE he's saying things. ( Example: I hit the record button.. He says LALALA... And he hears himself say it through the headphones....) Someone please help how do you do this with Adobe Audition

MOTU Traveler Preamp
Adobe Audition 1.5

A few potential problems with doing this are latency, singing off key, under & over singing the part.
The benefits are that by adding a little ambiance you may come up with a better performance.
Invest in a small mixer with built in effects and one of those single headphone/microphone combinations.
You won't need the mic but by putting the headset on one ear, you improve your chances of staying in pitch and within acceptable volumes.
You may also discover that you have a dominant ear.
Take a line out from your audio interface to your mixer. Plug the headset into the mixer. Add effects and voila, you hear yourself singing in a nice room and it adds no effects to your recording.
 
You need to use the Motu Cuemix software to set up the low-latency input monitoring (onboard hardware DSP, as opposed to routed through your DAW). With this you can feed the input from the mic into the headphone output. Also, if you have the Traveller mk3, you'll have CueMix FX be able to add effects, reverb, etc, to this.

Using the onboard 'zero latency' input monitoring is the preferred way of doing things, as if you run it through Audition then you'll probably introduce a lot of latency, the amount of which depending on your ASIO buffer settings and any plugins you're running on that track.
 
I am trying to do this as well. Except I have a keyboard and I have line out on the keyboard going into my computer and so the sound goes on my computer and I can not hear what I am playing, any one help? Sorry to post a question on your question.

PS I am using audacity.

It's obvious you know what your talking about but im totally clueless as to what you just said... I don't have a mixer and if i bought a cheap mixer i would lose quality from my mic and preamp no!? Can u explain that easier ;) maybe some picture hahah
 
You wouldn't need a mixer except for if you wanted to, lets say, add some reverb to the headphone mix like Jim Lad was talking about (which if you have the mk3 traveller you can do anyway)... the Motu interface has onboard mixing functionality just for this purpose. Fire up Cuemix and you're sorted...

ya ive been messing with the cuemix for about 5 minutes now it looks like what im supposed to be doing to get it to work but i cant figure out how to make it do what i want!?

Its on bus 1, output phones 1-2, and talk and listen buttons are locked so they are always on.... It hears the microphone because the meter adjust when it make noise into it... But nothing comes through the headphones... what now?!


All i want is for it to play back exactly whats being said at that moment with as little latency as possible... i wont run it through audition unless its required to run it through audition.. if not ill just keep cuemix up when im recording :)

Headphone problems, MotuTraveler MK3

For some reason I cant hear any output from the headphone jack on the Motu Traveler. I just got the Motu and we are setting up for recording while we have a few weeks off of tour. I am also routing thru ableton live 8 for recording the tracks. Any advise is definitely appreciated. I feel like its a button I may have pushed on CueMix or the interface itself. Thanks you!~

I haven't used Audacity in a long time, but look for a monitor button. Turn it on and turn up your speakers.
 
Hi! I have the same problem in Adobe Audition 3.0. My soundcard is M-Audio Audiophile 2496, my preamp is M-Audio DMP3. I suppose that is all (gearwise) I need to be able to hear myself while recording vocals but I still can't figure out how to make it happen. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
