how to go from digital to CD?

I have just ordered a Boss BR8 digital recorder and am anxiously waiting to record digitally, but I am anxious about another thing too: what else will I need to purchase to take my digital recordings on zip disks and burn them on to a CD?
 
I have the Br8 and a philips cd recorder. Thats all I need to burn cds. They run about 400 something dollars. Oh, and a rca cable of course.

Fantastic! All that I have to do is connect the BR-8 to the phillips cd recorder with the rca cable and let it rip?! Can you tell me how many songs or minutes the BR8 holds? Also, can you record more than one zip disk on to the same cd?
 
if you got a computer with a sound card i have a sound blaster live, you can do it that way if you have a burner. it would be cheaper this way if you got a computer already. i dump all my recordings down track by track then i edit more in my comp. sounds great. takes a little practice though because you have to rearrange the tracks again once they are in the comp. if not the other way is the way to go!
 
Ok this is the deal. When recording in the Standard Mode-which you should always record in if you want nice clear sounds- you'll get about 4 minutes give or take a little on 8 tracks depending on how much is recorded on each track. If one track has a couple of notes or a small harmony part on it,,great,, that'll save space..
You have to keep optimizing .(the br8 never deletes anything permanantly unless you optimize and that will erase all overwritten recordings) Its hard to say exactly how much time you;ll get ,,it depends how you record,,how much you bounce..
You'll get one song down no problem.
Now as far as burning cds..you can put 74 minutes onto a cd right? SO what you would do is record your song onto the cd--use a
cd-rw cuz mixing down is a bitch and you'll probably need to do it a few times to get it down like you want it. When your song is over, press stop on the cd burner and Viola! you got track one down..you have another 70 minutes to kill so pop in the next zip disk and record away!

Thanks again. I am sure that I will have a few more questions when the unit finally arrives. Would you mind if I e-mailed you? One quick question about the cd-burner: does it have to be a phillips, or was that just your choice?
 
It doesnt have to be phillips. You can use any standalone cd recorder.

who makes a good one? better yet, who makes a good one at a moderate price?
 
Shana.. you use the Phillips stand alone... might that be the CDR770 and if so, does it have both SP/DIF and RCA inputs? Do you find that it has any drawbacks?

A music store said that the TASCAM CD-RW700 was a good machine, around $600 but I think you can find the Phillips 770 for around $400 (through BH Foto, in NY)... does anyone know the difference between the two or have any other suggeestions? I have a Korg d-8 and I'd like to get a stand alone CD burner.
 
Its actually the CDR775 and it has analog ins and out , digital ins and outs and optical in. Its the dual deck so i use to copy cds and make mixes besides mixing down. So far its pretty good . I did get suckered into buying insurance for it (at best buy) supposedly after so much cd burning the lens needs to be realigned? Who knows,, i figure they'll replace it if it falls down the stairs or something.

Here's a site on the Philips dual deck that I found when I was researching CD burners. It has some good info on this model, which I believe is the 765 model (not the 775) but I have to believe they are similar.

I have the 765 and it's worked out great for me so far.

Tell me if I've got this straight. Shana has a dual cd burner, so he burns a cd from the music he recorded on his Boss BR-8, and then he burns a copy of that cd since he has a dual burner. Is that right?
