How to get a certain sound? (ATTN: Justin Hayatt)

I'm going to link you to a song by one of my favorite bands. If you guys get a chance to listen to it could you give me ideas about how you think they recorded it? My band is looking for the same sound; aggressive in nature, loud, punchy backing vocals, etc.

I want mostly to know how they get hte backing vocals so full and punchy, along with the best ways to record the type of vocals that they have (from quiet to loud and back without clipping). Anything else you notice in the song that you can point out will help, too.

Any techniques that you think they might've used will help out, or any techniques you know that'll allow for this full aggressive sound will help.

Justin, if you read this, you sounded like you knew a little about the recording sessions they had, so I was hoping you could share some secrets about this for me. Thanks.

At least someone help me out with the whole backgroud vocals issue (voxvendor?). How do they get the full punchy sound? I guess it's pretty much a bunch of layers, since that's what all of the other posts about backing vocals are. Help?

I just lo-fi'd it, but it sounds like some Mutt Lange-style compression's going on there.
 
Search the forum archives. His style of recording backing vocals has been discussed here many, many times.
 
Oh my God. Is that style of music making a comeback? :) Kind of reminds me of . . .

"Youth Gone Wild" was the name of the tune.

Yea, you're right. This stuff is definitely more "Warrant" influenced as opposed to Skid Row. :) :) :( What was I thinking?
 
Hey Chris,
I too listened to the low fi, and there doesnt seem to be too much trickery going on there. Sounds to me like alot of unison layers. Not much in terms of hamonizing. ...some compression as eurythmic mentioned... maybe some verb or chorus...(not rally clear in low fi). Background vocals are all about the performance. If you can get some tight vocals that layer nicely, most of the battle has been won. ..good luck
