??????????

Looks like the Fostex just sends your whole final song via spdif, but can I get easy software for the SBLIVE to set up the receiving part???

If the Blaster has a S/PDIF in/out on it (the one I had a couple of hundred years ago did) the recording software selects which input to record. At least all the apps I've ever used did.
Watch out with Prosumer S/PDIF, that pesky SCMS bit can sometimes get in the way.

Yeah well that's the deal man.

The SBLIVE has a "digital" in/out which I THOUGHT was s/pdif format.......it has a couple apps on the cd that I'm installing in a few minutes, we'll see what is what.... the "reviews" for my card say it has s/pdif capability, but the input rca jack just says digital....

thanks!

I've never heard a definitive answer on the stock SB and SPDIF. It though you needed the Live Drive for SPDIF.

Yeah, I have the live drive and spdif works fine. It has coax in too. Sb live value does not. 5.1 with the live drive does. Outside of the wonderfully easy hookup to front of tower, I got a masterlink to mix to. Then I rip that mix from the cd into sound forge on the pc. Much better results than recording into an app on the pc using the sb converters.

If you have a single RCA labeled Digital (actually you should have two; one is a stereo in, the other would be a stereo out). that's your S/PDIF. Use a decent 75 ohm video type of a cable that's terminated in RCA connectors to patch them together. As I remember my card I believe the S/PDIF was on a daughter board from the main card (I think. It's been a while).

Thanks, it actually has two connectors, one with a graphic arrow inside three concentric circles that pints up or 'in" and one that points down........... then it has the last connector on the panel just marked "digital"...

I dunno, can't find the manual for it, gonna check the cd.....

OK found it I'm screwed need daughterboard thingy hate it gonna shoot the frickin' thing prolly costs about 300 bucks blow me gonna get another card frick frick frick frick.....

HUH? The soundblaster live 5.1? Why don't you have both pieces? If you have the front panel part it's got all the connects right there... 1/4 analog/spdf, toslink, midi, digital rca... Did you just get the card alone? How or why?

Don't tell me that that's S/PDIF in and out on a stereo mini plug or something??? If so, that's a cheese dick set up.

No, it's a 1/4". I used to have one. And it was OK. But I have a 428 at the time as well and didn't need it. Plus I found plugging shit into the front like that was kind of a pain. And I'm still curious as to why those tiny midi ports would be on anything except maybe a laptop.

Roland saul,

You're best getting a better sound card anyway. I have and still use sb 5.1 and it's good, don't get me wrong. But it's not nearly as good as getting yourself a very good sound card right off the bat. I would advise not to cheap out on the sound card. It makes or brakes what you've worked hard tracking. Good luck.
