how to check signal quality

I've been going over my signal chain to find any flaws and I was curious if any of you know a good way to check the quality of a signal.

Sometimes when I record I feel that the dynamics aren't what they should be, or that its not as crisp as can be, but I don't know how much that has to do with signal or something else.

besides monitoring the output of each device directly, then no, not that I can think of (eg breaking the signal chain and plugging your monitors directly into the output jack of each device, then moving along the chain until you find the problem)

If you've got everything running through a patchbay, this is pretty easy, but if you're just making daisy chains of things it will probably get a bit hard.
