How to build up a flow?

I've just skimmed the whole thread, didn't really read it.

All I can say is I go CRAZY sometimes...because over here in Holland...a lot of cats are all flow flow flow. (esp. cats that rap in Dutch).

I think having something to say is more important.

Having good technique is also important, mind you, and what I have to say about flowing is:

just try to write it in a way it comes out naturally... like your lyrics, they should come out like it's the most natural thing in the world to you.

Yeah im keep trying ill post a sample of my newest song in a bit.

ItzCashew...i dont rap, but i do sing. i find that it helps me to listen to the music several times and get real into it. it helps the words flow naturally to the rythm, and makes the lyrics sound more relaxed. maybe while your listening to your music, hum it to the melody. really get into it. then when you feel you can really relate to the music and you feel you can flow to it, your flow will more than likely come out alot less monotone and alot more natural.

are you talkin about your presence ? or are you talkin about your lyrics ?

the way i record and i havent recorded that much as a matter of a fact i have the lyrics but im so focused on them that i can really relax..like one of these ppl said imagine that everything you say is the coolest shit on earth! even if others dont think so..the self confidence kinda helps...oh yea and if you think it not your voice thats dull it might be the fact that the background seems dull...like listen to rap artists and listen to the doubles and the back ground alot other shit they sayin

on lyrics it all takes time...more years in the game can help ya flow and also learnin new words...and also dont worry about how the flow stops unless you extend the bars past 2 or 4 bars...then you should continue it...like listen to lyrical cats like mos def...he keeps goin on for 4 - 6 bars same sound...50 cent on the other hand does 2 bar spits....

help a lil bit ?

^^ does that mean that rap is off limits to other people? I mean its not like we're looking to get famous music is basically like thearapy. Or thats what i think

Usually I wait about a month, then I get a good flow for about 3 days.

Seriously though if you do a search on acapellas on the net just to compare and contrast how monotone different rappers really are, you can spot it even in their polished productions.

I can take an Eminem acapella, a Snoop Dogg acapella, a Fat Joe acapella, a Fabulous acapella and can tell how much dressing up the verses alone are doing with adlib tracks or doubles.

Don't forget that your beat you use dresses up a lot of that too so if you're using a simple beat but not doing enough dressing up on your vocals, it'll stick out like a sore thumb.

yo fyre ya flow is sick son keep it up homie i wanna hear you on the radio playa. you signed or wut?

I agree with Fyre, looks like you just need a better sense of rhythm, and maybe a little better orginization of your lyrics... lyrics shouldnt flow OVER the beat, they should flow WITH the beat, y'know? Just keep practicing, freestlying and rapping over random beats, and your sense of rhythm will improve and eventually you will just "feel" the beat with your voice. Hope that helps...
Well said man. Very well said.
